Branch News Branch 10 Barton, OH Branch 40 Martins Ferry, OH Branch 248 Monaville, WV Branch 349 Weirton, WV Branch 8164 Steubenville, OH by Joyce Nicholson My thanks to the members of the WPA branches from Barton, Martins Ferry, Weirton, Steubenville and Monaville who chose to donate gift baskets for the Chinese auction at the WPA Picnic at Scenic View in Pennsylvania. The auction is a wonderful event and is only one of the fund raisers organized to raise money for the WPA scholarship fund. It's always a lot of fun to bid on the items, but it takes a lot to coordinate this event by many people in the WPA organization. Our thanks to everyone who takes the time and effort every year to organize this event and the entire Fraternal-Fest. Our branches will be meeting on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 2:00 p.m. to discuss plans for the WPA children's Christmas party. The meeting will be held at 63 Meadow Lane, Winter sville, Ohio. For information about our branch activities, please call Joyce Nicholson at 740-264-6238. Branch 14 Cleveland, OH by Dawn D. Ward It's hard to believe that summer is coming to an end, but the best thing about this time of the year is the WPA Picnic. Plan to come to Scenic View in Rockwood Pa., Saturday, Sept. 11, from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. Enjoy the live music and dancing, Chinese auction and raffles and the wonderful Hungarian food. There are also children's games and activities. Kudos to Violet Sarosi for organizing the bus trip to the picnic. Branch 14 member and scholarship recipient Dylan Mook will be attending Quincy University in Illinois. He graduated from St. Ignatius, Cleveland's premier Catholic high school for boys. Dylan also received a scholarship from Quincy University, where he will be a member of the soccer team. There were many other branch 14 members who received new or renewal scholarships. We encourage them to contact the Ward Agency at 440-838-1200 to inform us where they will attend college and what their major and plans for the future will be. The next branch meeting will be held Wednesday, Sept. 1. at the Bethlen Hall of the First Hungarian Reformed Church, 14530 Alexander Road, Walton Hills at 7:30 p.m. All members are welcome to attend to help plan the branch activities. Branch 18 Lincoln Park, MI by Barbara A. House I am writing this from very sunny Florida. We have averaged a very warm 96 degrees. Having a very lovely pool helps some, but when the temp in the pool is 90, well, you know what I mean. We are not here for the weather. We are here to reconnect with our very special family—and connecting we are. We are having a wonderful time. We came here to celebrate our July birthdays, starting with my daughter Deborah on the 19th, then grandson David on the 23rd, son-inlaw Glenn on the 26th and, finally, mine on the 25th. What a great celebration it was. We're already looking forward to coming back in December. Thank you to all who remembered my birthday. Wow! You made me feel very special. We are busily preparing for the WPA Picnic-A Great Fraternal-Fest on Sept. 11 in Rockwood, Pa. We hope you are all planning to attend. Branch 18 again has a bus taking our members to the event. We resume branch meetings on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 7:00 p.m. at the American Hungarian Reformed Church on Allen Road in Allen Park. We hope to see you there. We will plan our events for the coming year. The 2010 WPA Golf Tournament is but a wonderful memory. If you didn't attend, you really missed out. From the scholarship meeting to the welcome reception, to the Monte Carlo Night, Chinese auction, raffles and contests and, last but not least, the golf and barbeque, it was a firstclass event. Many thanks to everyone who worked so hard, especially Endre Csornán and our wonderful Home Office staff. We couldn't do it without you. Thanks, Andy McNelis, for being there. Look out next year; we are already planning your weekend for 2011. Thanks, Roger Nagy, for the super sausage. You can bring more anytime. Congratulations, Emma Poliska, on your new great-grandson, Isauro Camilo Gomez. We have to make him a member now. Get well wishes go out to Eleanor Kender, George Schvarckopf, A1 and Olga Wansa and Ann and Steve Nagy. Hope you're all better real soon. Remember in your prayers our deceased members and their families, especially Steve Somodi and Walter Burinda. May they rest in peace. Welcome new members Kaleigh McKee, Lindsey McKee, Kyle McKee, Shannon McKee, Dylan Kosaski, Hunter Kosaski, Tyler Kosaski, Hannah Kosaski, Taylor Osentoski, Chad Osentoski and Richard Stubbs. Many thanks to Anita and Lee Kosaski and Shirley Gegus. Hope to see you all at our upcoming Christmas party. Remember, that is always on the last Sunday of November. Congratulations to Chris Sabo on being inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame. Chris is the nephew of Julius (Deac) Sabo and Robert Sabo, two very proud uncles.
