Thanks for a wonderfu From the students of our 2010 Hungarian Heritage Experience Instructor László Kovács C +1 I r ++ A 4 ° September 2010 0 William Penn Life Student Eleanor ! Vinczi enjoys some homemade soup. Erzsébet Kovács Wagner (L), Dublin, OH Maria Stephenson, Houston, OH My name is Erzsébet Kovács Wagner. My immediate family and I escaped from Lepény, Hungary, during the 1956 revolt. Maria Stephenson (my niece) and I attended our first Hungarian Heritage Experience this year. Maria is looking forward to returning home to share the wonderful experience with her husband Rodney and their two-year-old daughter, “Pici” Maria. We had language classes, embroidery time, singing, dancing and food that made us feel as if we were back in Hungary. We met great people that are now friends. We wish to thank all the wonderful folks who made this week possible: our chefs and their helpers, our host Endre Csornán, our teachers and all the folks behind the scenes. We highly recommend you experience this next year, no matter your age or level of language skill. Mary Végh Hower (L), Corpus Christi, TX Dianna Bodosy Spencer, Akron, OH I learned about the one week Hungarian Heritage Experience sponsored by William Penn Association over three years ago from my first cousin, Dianna Bodosy Spencer. At the time I had already been to the old country twice to visit my son who was studying at the University of Szeged and to visit my second cousins in Pincehely. I absolutely loved my trips to Hungary, but having my son for an interpreter, I didn’t spend any time learning the language. When I heard about WPA’s program, I was immediately taken by the idea of spending a week with other Americans of Hungarian descent studying the language in such a beautiful setting as Scenic View. Dianna raved about the delicious meals and wonderful people she met during her previous two years at camp and, happily, I was able to make the trip with her this year. The program did not disappoint. I learned much more about Hungarian language, history and culture than I had anticipated, not only from the great instructors, but from the course director, staff and all the great people who attended. Many thanks to the officers and directors of WPA for sponsoring such a valuable educational program supporting our Hungarian heritage. I hope it will continue for years to come. Mary Griffin (R), Manchester, CT Sue Fiaccone, Oklahoma City, OK We grew up in a Hungarian neighborhood in Fairfield, Conn. Our father, Nicholas Lipusz, and our mother, Helen Fiasko, immigrated to the United States with our older sister Helen in 1937 from a small village near Miskolc. Most of our family still lives in this region. We came to the Hungarian Heritage Experience because we have not heard the language spoken in years. We also hoped to add to our vocabulary and to further our knowledge of the written Hungarian language. We had a wonderful experience due to our two teachers. We highly recommend a week at Scenic View to all our fellow Hungarians.
