1 Branch News Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank Our beautiful American Flag will celebrate its 233rd birthday on Flag Day, June 14. We should be proud to show the colors of Old Glory on this day. So, let each of our homes display our American Flag so others may notice your love for these colors. It doesn't have to be large; just a small one in your window is sufficient. Branch 800 has six members who have reached 50 years of membership in the WPA. They are; Walter W. Beckel Jr., Paul F. Carnicella, Richard A. Carnicella and Danny M. Roberto, all of Altoona; Lynne M. Nickum (Gonter) of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and Tracy A. Woods of Duncansville, Pa. All received special 50- year pins and a buffet was provided for those able to be present. Paul Carnicella won the table centerpiece. It's Happy Father's Day on June 20 to all fathers. May the Lord help you in all that you do. It is hoped that the weather will be good for whatever you do. Nice weather is here now, and it's time for members and their families to enjoy a nice vacation. When packing up to leave, say a little prayer so that you may have a safe journey. Our branch's summer picnic is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 4, at 6:00 p.m. (rain or shine) at Highland Park in Altoona. Deadline for reservations is July 27. Call me at 814-695- 0213. All members, their families and friends are most welcome. We encourage members to support your branch by telling your relatives and friends to join our financially strong fraternal association. Call Bob Jones in Altoona at 814-942- 2661. He can tell you more about the benefits of membership. Branch 800 meetings are in recess for the summer. Our next meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes religious Education Center in Altoona. Have a safe and happy Fourth of July. Picnic, barbecues and fireworks are ready to be in full swing. Remember to be safe. God Bless America. Branch 8114 Clarion, PA by Noreen Fritz, FIC, LUTCF (in Pittsburgh) Father's Day has become hugely popular. Everywhere, people thank their fathers and pay tribute to them. It provides children a day to express love and respect for their fathers and to strengthen their relationship. I came across two sayings that I would like to share on the lighter side. One thing we never hear a father (or any man) say is: "Well, how about that, I'm lost. We'll have to stop and ask for directions." The other is about how times have changed. In 1900 if a father was treated to breakfast in bed, he would usually have eggs, bacon, ham and potatoes. Today it's Special K, soy milk, dry toast and a lecture on cholesterol. Happy Father's Day to all you wonderful men out there. Branch members having birthdays in June are: Craig Ochs, Matthew Kifér, Gage Best, Jerome Conner, Denise Gourley, Kenneth Bauer, Megan Rice, Mary Jean Bagileo, Collin Callihan, James Sunderland, Natalie Rhoads, Susanna Swan, Samantha Gatesman, Winnie Durante, Jessica Lahr, Anthony Sarvey, Paul Weaver, Edna Smith, Thelma Gatesman, Ashley Steiner and Ethel Walter celebrating her 91st birthday. Happy birthday! If you have branch news to share or questions on any retirement plan or life insurance, please keep in mind that I am available to help you. My email address is noreenbunny. fri tz@verizon.net. Branch 8121 St. Marys, PA by Mary Lou B. Schutz The members of Branch 8121 held a meeting May 5. Our branch received tickets for the raffle benefiting the Scholarship Foundation, which will be drawn at the WPA Picnic on Sept. 11. Good luck to the members who purchased those tickets. ftM Are your beneficiaries up to date? That’s a question you may not have asked yourself very often, if ever. But, it’s one you should ask yourself at least once a year. We can’t stress enough the importance of regularly checking the beneficiaries listed on your life insurance certificates. It is the only way to ensure that the people you want to receive the benefits of your life insurance are the ones who will receive it. Think about the changes that have occurred in your life since you purchased your life insurance. Getting married, having children, losing a loved one, getting divorced, getting remarried-all these life changes affect your responsibilities. Do the beneficiaries currently listed on your life insurance certificates reflect such changes? If you think you need to update the beneficiaries listed on your certificates--either primary or secondary beneficiaries-contact your WPA representative. Or, call our Home Office toll-free at 1-800-848-7366. William Penn Life 0 June 2010 0 25
