Branch News Branch 14 Cleveland, OH by Dawn D. Ward The last branch meeting prior to summer recess was held April 1. Members discussed the branchsponsored outing to the Indians game July 31 against the Detroit Tigers. This annual outing has proven to be one of the most funfilled and well-attended affairs that we have during the year. The branch unanimously voted to donate $1,000 to become Gold Level members in the William Penn Association Scholarship Foundation's "Tree of Knowledge." Branch 14 has always supported the Scholarship Foundation. We regard this as another opportunity to help a worthy cause. The "Tree" is mounted in the second floor foyer of the WPA Home Office. Contributors will be recognized with individual "leaves" on the tree. Members are encouraged to help the "Tree" grow. The 26th Annual WPA Golf Tournament and Scholarship Days will be held July 17 and 18 at the Quicksilver Golf Course near Pittsburgh. Anyone wishing to play should contact Caroline Lanzara at 216-581-8979 for further information. There are still tickets available for the bus going to the 9th Annual WPA Picnic-A Great Fraternal Fest to be held at Penn Scenic View on Sept. 12. Contact Violet Sarosi at 440-248-9012 for information and reservations. Branch member Tony France won first place in the elite division at the 43rd annual Autorama held at the I-X Center on March 20. He won in the Exotic Car category. His car, a 1973 Pantera, defeated two other cars, a Lamborghini and a Ferrari. Tony has owned the car since 1977. In addition to keeping the car in spotless condition, Tony actually uses the car in his everyday life, weather permitting. The car's parts were made by Ford- Germany and Ford-France, and the car was assembled in Italy. It has a 351 Cleveland Motor, original German transmission, 17-inch wheels and a beautifully redone interior. Congratulations, Tony! The branch was well-represented on the Brecksville men's basketball age 50-and-over league championship team. Team members with a WPA connection are Jim Bourquin, Charlie Schroer and Jeff Ward. The men won a hard-fought final game by the score of 50-41. Great job, guys! With Memorial Day approaching, it is important to acknowledge the debt of gratitude we owe to all our members who have served so faithfully in the Armed Forces. We can never thank them enough. Our next meeting will be held Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the Bethlen Hall of the First Hungarian Reformed Church, 14530 Alexander Road, Walton Hills. All branch members are welcome to attend. Branch 18 Lincoln Park, MI by Barbara A. House I think spring may have finally arrived. We got a few inches of snow on April 6, but it finally has gone away. Wasn't that a winter? Memorial Day is just around the corner. Remember to thank a vet for all their sacrifices for us. Happy retirement, Marge Boso. Enjoy your well-deserved freedom. Thank you, Diane Malloy, Haley and Sarah, for thinking of me. We will keep saving all our tabs for you. Get well wishes to Grace Balaythy, Shirley Kotik, Marguerite McNelis, Joe Horvath of Toledo, Joe Hamari, Eleanor Kender, Gerry Davenport, Brian Cady, Eva Schroth and Rocky Borsa.
