Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank Here at Branch 800 we have for you an unusual but joyful branch report. Your branch officers wish to pass on to all branch members that for the first time ever in Branch 800 history, we focus on a very special birthday being celebrated this month. Member Frederick Weakland of Altoona, with 72 years of membership in our society, will celebrate his 100th birthday. That's right. He was bom Sept. 11,1908. But, each year since 2001, he remembers what terrorists did on his birthday. Another interesting fact is that Fred was bom in the same house that he has lived in all those 100 years. His health is pretty good and he has a good appetite and sharp memory. He exercises, reads and loves his patio. He is a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Altoona. Fred retired as a school teacher at Roosevelt Junior High School in Altoona and served in the U.S. Army in Europe for three years during World War II. His wife passed away at age 90 after more than 50 years of married life. Fred told me that he is very thankful and lucky for the many years that the good Lord has given him here on Earth. Your fellow branch members celebrate with you, Fred, and may God bless you for sharing your life story with others. It may still be summer on the calendar, but after Labor Day, the socalled dog days of summer will be winding down. Now we see the evenings getting shorter and know that the fall season will soon be upon us. So, let's get ready to say goodbye to summer and hello to the autumn season which arrives on Sept. 22. If you have moved or are planning to do so, please notify the WPA Home Office of your new address and telephone number. You may also share your information with Branch Coordinator Bob Jones in Altoona at 814-942-2661, and he will see to it that your records are updated. Bob is also ready, willing and able to help you and your family with your life insurance and annuity needs.
