Branch News Branch 14 Cleveland, OH by Dawn D. Ward It's hard to believe summer is almost over, and the WPA picnic is just around the comer. Many people from northeast Ohio will be at the picnic thanks to the efforts of Violet Sarosi and Mary Jane Molnár, who arranged bus trips to the picnic. Mary Jane is the president of the Hungarian Cultural Center of Northeast Ohio, formerly St. Stephen's Dramatic Club (1904-2001) and the Geauga Magyar Club (1975 - 2001). The outing is a great way to wrap up the summer and enjoy the delicious Hungarian food, wonderful music and beautiful scenery of the Laurel Highlands. Congratulations to Branch 14 members Barney (Bud) and Maribeth Katona of Painesville, Ohio, on their 50th wedding anniversary. A party in their honor was held July 26 at the home of their son and daughter-inlaw, Steve and Lisa Katona. Bud and Maribeth are perpetuating the fraternal spirit by being active at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Fairport Harbor. The Katonas have enjoyed the local branch Christmas parties over the years with their grandchildren, who are fifth generation WPA members. I'm proud to say that Bud is my first cousin. The branch welcomes new members Peyton Taylor, Heather Turner, Hannah Zebkar and Gabriella Zebkar. Please refer any prospective new members to the Ward Agency at 440-838-1200. The Branch 14 annual children's Christmas party will be held Saturday afternoon, Dec. 6, at the Bethlen Hall of the First Hungarian Reformed Church in Walton Hills. All Branch 14 members are welcome to attend, but children will receive invitations. Mark your calendars now. You'll NEKT DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 15.2008 surely get in the Christmas spirit being among 100-plus children! The next Branch 14 meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the First Hungarian Church in Walton Hills. All members are welcome to attend and help plan the winter activities. Branch 18 Lincoln Park, MI by Barbara A. House We recently returned home from our annual WPA golf tournament. A great time was had by all. Weather was hot but dry. Food was super. Hotel was great, but, best of all, was the fraternalism. The Scholarship Foundation raised more than $20,000. The Foundation awarded 188 scholarships that weekend, so the money already has places to go. It's never too late to donate. Our scholarships are ongoing. Please try to help any way you can. No donation is too small. Charlie Johns and Branch 336 did a super job in making us all feel welcome. Thanks, Charlie, for a job well done. Thank you, Emery Breznai, Vince Sears, Deac Sabo and Shirley Przy wara for thinking of the WPA and me for your financial and insurance needs. Mary Duzy was the guest of honor at her recent 90th birthday party. Her daughter Mary Jo was a wonderful hostess. Nice to see Dick and Vivian Hollis from Florida. Also met Art Antal's new bride Marcia at the event. Congratulations. Remember, Marcia, you promised to become a member. It was a wonderful event. Happy birthday, Mary. Let's do it again next year.
