Branch 132 South Bend, IN The officers of Branch 132 are sorry to announce that the branch picnic scheduled for Aug. 24 has been cancelled. Branch 296 Springdale, PA by Diane M. Torma Hope everyone had a great time at the golf tournament in Harrisburg. Thanks to those who supported the Scholarship Foundation throughout all of the weekend's activities. More than $20,000 was raised for this worthy cause! Congratulations to our scholarship recipients, who wrote some insightful essays. Now we will set our sights on the 8th Annual WPA Picnic-A Great Fraternal Fest, which will be held at Penn Scenic View on Saturday, Sept. 13. If you have never attended this event, please consider doing so. It is well worth the trip—just ask the thousand or so people who attend every year and enjoy the great food, pastries, music, children's tent, Chinese auction, raffles, fellowship and many other activities planned. It's also a great opportunity to visit Penn Scenic View. This beautiful facility is available year-round for rental to our members at a discounted rate. We've recently added audio/ visual equipment to our Lakeside Lodge so it is a great place to have a group meeting or event, in addition to being an ideal place for a wedding. Branch News A special happy birthday wish to Emma Balia, who recently turned 94, surrounded by her family, including her 10 great-grandchildren. Wishing you many more healthy, happy years. Happy August birthdays to Pauline Becsi, Irene Charles, Helen Gosciejew, Brian Ratkiewicz and Esther Vargo. May you all have a special day! For your life insurance and annuity needs, call Noreen Fritz at 412- 821-1837. If you have branch news to share, call me at 724-339-2445. Branch 336 Harrisburg, PA by Lynnda Turns I would like to introduce myself. I am Lynnda Turns, and I am the new correspondent for Branch 336 Harrisburg, Pa. I am a graduate of Penn State University and earn my way as a property manager for several apartment complexes. My son M.J. and my husband William are happy to be part of the William Penn community. We have recently taken advantage of the insurance and annuity plan offered by the WPA, and if you have not checked into this, please take the time to do so, especially the youth insurance plan, which is a very good thing. We also have a dog and four cats and hope, like all pet owners, that there will be pet insurance in the near future. I will be sharing with you throughout the coming months all the exciting events that will be taking place at our branch. I would like to hear from our members. If something special has happened, please let me know so we can all share in your joy. We even want to hear the sad news so that we can let you know we care. You can forward your news to me via email at btitmjn@comcast.net. Starting in September, if you find yourself in Harrisburg on the fourth Thursday of the month, please stop by our club for dinner. Each month a different delicious meal is served. Let's all wish the best of luck and health to our following members who are celebrating an August birthday: Vincent J. Bulik, William A. So, a lot of celebrations will be taking place outdoors, such as picnics and barbecues, on this last of the summer holidays. In some ways it's not the day we want to see yet, for that means the closing of parks and swimming pools. But, then again, it opens up to a new season of football that so many, many people really enjoy. Branch 800 wishes everyone a happy three-day Labor Day weekend. Congratulations to all members or family members celebrating a special birthday, wedding anniversary, retirement, vacation or anything else that will be taking place in the near future. Call me at 814-695-0213 to let me know about your special occasion and I will share your good news with your fellow members through our branch reports in the William Penn Life. The summer season is slipping by quickly now and that means that most schools will begin classes soon. That also means branch members will be getting ready for resuming our branch meetings. Our next branch meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 7:00 p.m.at Our Lady of Lourdes Religious Education Center, 873 -22 William Penn Life, August 2008
