25th Annual Golf Tournament Silver Edition Harrisburg to play host to the WPA’s 25th Annual Golf Tournament and Scholarship Days WE CORDIALLY INVITE ALL MEMBERS to join us July 18 and 19 in Harrisburg, Pa., as the WPA celebrates the silver anniversary of its annual golf tournament. The weekend's festivities will begin Friday, July 18, with registration and a reception at the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey Hotel, which will be providing accommodations for all golfers and guests. At 4:00 p.m. the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation will conduct its annual meeting, also at the hotel. Friday's featured event will be a special Golfers Reception at Penn National Race Course. In addition to some wonderful food, the evening will offer members and guests the opportunity to visit Penn National's one-mile thoroughbred race track or try their luck at Penn National's brand new casino, housing more than 2,000 slot machines. The next morning, golfers will gather at the Dauphin Highlands Golf Course for our 18-hole tournament. The tournament will again feature a shotgun start and a straight scramble format. Immediately following the tournament, a delicious barbeque will be held at the Masonic Hall in nearby Steelton, Pa. After the meal, we'll be hosting our special $1,000 Putting Contest, open to all WPA life benefit members age 16 and older registered to attend the barbeque. To enter the tournament and reserve your seats for the barbeque, complete the form found on Page 19 of this issue and send it to the Home Office by June 20. Be sure you include your check covering tournament fees and barbeque tickets. Please note that all golfers and guests must make their own room reservations directly with the hotel by calling 717-564-5511. Fees and Costs The tournament entry fee is $75 for WPA adult life benefit members and $80 for nonmembers. This fee includes green fees, golf cart and a sandwich and beverage at the turn. Room rates at the Sheraton are $119 per night based on double occupancy. All rooms will be reserved on a firstcome/first-served basis and are subject to availability. Tickets for the barbeque are $25 for adults age 16 and older and $10 for teens ages 12 to 15. Children age 11 and under are free. (Please note the golfing fee does NOT include admission to the barbeque.) Hole-ln-One Contest Once again, the tournament will feature the fun and exciting Hole-In-One Contests. All eligible members who score a hole-in-one at the designated par-3 hole during tournament play will win a $15,000 cash prize. Any nonmember who scores an ace on the designated hole will win $7,500. Plus, cash prizes will be awarded to golfers who score a hole-in-one on any of Dauphin Highlands' other par-3 holes during tournament play. On those holes, eligible WPA members will win $5,000, while nonmembers can take home $2,500. By "eligible member" we mean a golfer who is an adult life benefit member of the William Penn Association by July 1,2008, with at least one year's premiums paid. If a hole-in-one is not scored on the $15,000 hole, a special $500 cash prize will be awarded to the golfer (member or non-member) who gets his or her tee shot closest to the pin on that hole. For those arriving early and wishing to play the course before the tournament, the WPA has reserved tee times at Dauphin Highlands for Friday, July 18, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. To reserve a Friday tee time, call the course at 717-986-1984, or visit their website at mvw.golfdauphinhighlands.com.
