Branch News Youngsters enjoy a visit with Santa while listening to Hungarian music during a party held jointly by the Ohio Valley Hungarian-American Cultural Society and local WPA branches. Branch 10 Barton, OH Branch 40 Martins Ferry, OH Branch 248 Monaville, WV Branch 349 Weirton, WV Branch 8164 Steubenville, OH by Ethel Fodor The Ohio Valley Hungarian-American Cultural Society and the WPA branches listed above held their annual joint Christmas party on Dec. 9 at the VFW Hall in Yorkville, Ohio. Many thanks goes out to our elves that always make this a wonderful event: Nick and Teresa Toth, Dorothy Vargo and Andy Suták. The children's party began at 3:00 p.m. with Santa and Mrs. Claus stopping by to deliver packages to all the kids. The children were excited about their packages from the WPA. The Hungarian band provided music for our festivities, which included a wonderful, delicious dinner and dancing. About 100 adults and 10 children attended. We thank the Association for supporting this family-oriented activity for our branch members and the cultural society. Branch 14 Cleveland, OH by Dawn D. Ward Branch 14 meetings are in winter recess until March 7. At the December meeting, it was decided to retain the same officers for 2007. Congratulations to President Caroline Lanzara, Vice President Tom Levi, and Secretary-Treasurer Richard Sarosi. Auditors Lou Horvath and Virginia Volter will also retain their positions. It is not too soon for Branch 14 students to request scholarship applications for the 2007-2008 academic year. Refer to the eligibility rules in the William Penn Life, and, if you have any questions, contact Gerry Davenport at the Home Office at 1- 800-848-7366, ext. 128, or the Ward Agency at (440) 838- 1200. Please report any significant news to the Ward Agency regarding WPA scholarship recipients. We are always pleased to inform you of the accomplishments of our fine youth. The branch continues to sponsor fun-filled activities throughout the year. Two of the more popular activities are the annual bowling and golf tournaments. Any members who desire to compete in the bowling or golf tournaments should contact President Lanzara at (216) 581-8979 or the local office at (440) 838-1200. Additional details will be published in the next few issues of the William Penn Life. Please plan to attend the next Branch 14 meeting Wednesday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the First Hungarian Reformed Church, 14530 Alexander Road, Walton Hills, Ohio. Hopefully our mild winter will continue, and you could attend the March meeting to help plan branch activities for 2007. Branch 18 Lincoln Park, MI by Barbara A. House Happy Valentines Day to all you wonderful members. I hope you spend the day with all those you love. Michigan weather is very strange this year. Very cold the first week of December and very warm the remainder of the month. At this writing the weather is still super. Hope you all are enjoying this strange winter. Remember: the bowling tournament will be in early May. It's not too soon to get your teams in order. If I can help, please call me at any time. Welcome new members Pam George, John Kozarevich, Joe Gall, Parker Justice and Hunter Anderson. Joanne Golob and George Schvarckopf added to their coverage. Thank you so much for the confidence you have in the WPA and me. In December, our branch elected new officers. They are: Barbara House, president; Helen Molnár, vice president; Rose Antal, secretary; Carol Truesdell, treasurer; and Michael Oberg, Tom House and Doug Truesdell, auditors. Ernie Mayoros will be the alternate auditor. Thank you to Emma Poliska for installing our officers. Thank you also to Kay Momtsios, our communications chairwoman. We are a busy branch, and it takes a lot of dedicated people. You may rest assured we will work very hard to keep you proud of your branch. Please remember our deceased members and their families in your prayers, especially Margaret Glodan (one of our most active members, she will be missed), Elizabeth Williams, Helen Toth and William Daley. May they rest in peace with the Lord. Get well wishes to my mom Irene 14 William Penn Life, February 2007
