MoneywiSe with Mark Lantz Kids bowl for kids Young fraternalists raise money for a worthy cause and have a great time doing it I WANT TO USE MY COLUMN this month to tell you about a wonderful event that made me proud to be a fratemalist: the Fraternal Societies of Greater Pittsburgh's first ever "Kidz Bowling 4 Kidz." More than 60 young bowlers from a dozen fraternal societies gathered at Princess Lanes in Whitehall, Pa., Nov. 4 and helped raised about $5,000 for the benefit of Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Helping to get things rolling were The Pirate Parrot must have been a little hungry. Members of the WPA joined other youngsters for a fun-filled afternoon and helped raise money for Children’s Hospital. two of Pittsburgh's "biggest" sports fans-the Pirate Parrot and Iceburgh, the official mascots of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Penguins— who threw out the first balls. Each child and teen participating received a goodie bag upon registration. Awards were presented to those bowling the highest game and those who raised the most money through sponsorships. All of the children also went home with door prizes or as a "mystery number" winner. Joining the William Penn Association as sponsors for the event were NSS Life, the Greek Catholic Union, the Greater Beneficial Union, the Polish Falcons of America, the Slovene National Benefit Society, the Polish National Alliance, the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, the Slovak Catholic Sokol, the First Catholic Slovak Union of USA and Pennsylvania's Fraternal Insurance Counsellors. We would like to thank our sponsors, prize donors and numerous volunteers who came out to make this day a success. As we looked around the bowling alley it was quite clear that the parents, grandparents and volunteers also had a great time. We're looking forward to growing this worthwhile event next year. |WPL| The WPA offers many affordable life insurance plans for people ages 0 to 85.
