11 William Penn Life, November 2007 SECOND PRIZE - New Students - $250 Jared Ando, Branch 44 Akron, OH When you hear the words "life insurance," you generally don't think of a personal, familyoriented business. Well, I do, because when I hear "life insurance," I think of William Penn. William Penn is so much more than that to me. One of the more fond memories of my childhood was looking forward to the William Penn Christmas dinner. Each year my family and I would venture to the local buffet to be greeted by Santa Claus and our insurance agent, and each year my parents would engage him in conversation as if he were an old friend. He still calls each year to wish me a happy birthday. What other companies would have such devoted agents? It is almost as if he is a part of the family. You see, William Penn means so much more to me than just another insurance company. William Penn is a family-oriented business that celebrates my proud heritage and promotes a successful future for their young members. I am not part of the William Penn organization; I am part of the William Penn Family, and I am proud to say so. |wpl| THIRD PRIZE - New Students - $250 Jennifer Rich, Branch 13 Trenton, NJ When I thought about what the William Penn Association means to me, I realized that it reflects the same values that were passed down to me by my great-grandfather. These values consist of preserving our Hungarian heritage, promoting family life and preparing for the future. The first family value is preserving our Hungarian heritage. My great-grandparents were bom in Hungary and although I have never really talked to them about it, throughout my life many traditions have been passed down to me. One of my favorite things about the Hungarian heritage is all the different types of food. The William Penn also promotes the celebrations and traditions of the Hungarian heritage, involving even the youngest generations of our Hungarian families. A family was one of the most important things to my great-grandparents. Even now, every holiday and celebration is spent with our whole family together. We support each other through good and bad times. The William Penn reflects the same family life values. Even though this is an adult organization, many of the activities involve the entire family, young and old. My great-grandfather also passed down the Continued on Page 15 SECOND PRIZE Renewal Students - $250 Amanda Francis, Branch 44 Akron, OH To understand what the William Penn Association means to me, you have to understand what my grandfather means to me, what my grandmother means to me, and what they mean to each other. My grandfather is one of the kindest men you will ever meet and would do anything he could to make his grandchildren smile and to make sure we were happy. He always was the barber for the boys, though the only cut he knew was a crew cut, it didn't matter because who better to get it from than your own grandpa. He would always be the one to take me out fishing even if he had just gotten back, and he never complained when I had him bait my hook time and time again. We could always rely on him to take us swimming every hot summer day, and to stay there for hours until our lips were blue. He always knew how to make us smile with his unique dancing and he always kept us protected with his worrying ways. My grandmother is one the kindest women you will ever meet and would do anything she could to make sure her grandchildren were taken care of. Never once did we go hungry, she wouldn't have it. From the grilled cheese sandwiches, to the cookies she just happen to bake, to the lollipops you always had to take a few of. You can never leave the house without some kind of food to go with you. I know no better cook because everything she makes truly is made with others in mind. We can always count on grandma to keep Continued on Page 15 THIRD PRIZE - Renewal Students - $250 Marét D. Seitz, Branch 89 Homestead, PA The William Penn Association means a great deal to me. It means much more to me than simply a company which provides life insurance, annuities, tournaments, language camps, picnics, and benefits-it reinforces a three-generation Hungarian tradition in our family. The Association shares with its members a fellowship, a fratemalism, and a special and unique "family" of its own that cares for one another. For me it represents a legacy of responsibility for charity and for community. I hold the William Penn Association in the highest regard, because it makes possibilities into realities, scholarships into education, and members into friends helping each other. |wpl|
