Branch News The Rev. Michael Holloran, pastor of four parishes in Dayton, Ohio, recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of his ordination. Among those congratulating him were (l-r) Branch 249 Coordinator Michele Daley LaFlame, Branch Vice President Steve LaFlame and branch member Margaret Horvath. Great job, Tracey. For information on upcoming events, including the outdoor BBQ and bands, see the board at the club. The Ladies Auxiliary hosted an Easter egg hunt for members' children on April 8. The balloon artists and a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny assured a fabulous time was had by all. We thank the Ladies Auxiliary for their donations of pizza, chips and cookies. A special thank you goes to Sherry Moore for her delicious cupcakes. We thank all the auxiliary members who continue to make these children's parties such great successes. Thanks also to our 7-foot Easter Bunny. You were a hit! Anyone interested in becoming an auxiliary member and joining in the fun can call the club at (330) 823-0072 for more information. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Glenn (Rasty) Rastetter who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 7. That day also was special for Ratsy because he turned 81. They have 10 children, 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. We all wish them many more years of bliss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Marie (Tosha) Duruttya, 88, who died May 11,2007, after an extended illness. Marie was a second generation Hungarian of the founding members of the WPA. Her mother, Carolyn Tosha, was one of the founding members of our branch and the first Ladies Auxiliary. Marie was a lifelong member who served as branch secretary and as our William Penn Life correspondent for many years. She will be missed by her husband of 68V2 years, Michael, who always affectionately called her his child bride. The couple had three children (one an infant who died at birth), six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Marie and Michael enjoyed every day as a blessing. Marie will be remembered always for her joy of life, radiant smile and vibrant red hair. Our thoughts also go out to the family of Geraldine (Gerry) Taylor, 87, who died June 2,2007. She served as branch coordinator along side her husband, former Branch President Zak Taylor. She is survived by numerous family members. She will be missed by all. Thanks to both of these wonderful women for their many years of service. The Ladies Auxiliary will be holding a rummage sale Aug. 4 and 5. Any members wishing to make donations of items may do so one week prior to the sale. Any member who would like to share information for uncoming branch articles can contact Branch President Randy Moore, Vice President Carol Mcllvain, Treasurer Mike Dallas, Auditors Joey Bycraft, Deb Saeger or Rhonda Mobley, Branch Coordinator Marge Antonasanti or club manager Tracey Hurst. Farewell till next month! Branch 249 Dayton, OH by Michele Daley LaFlame June 2,2007, was a day of celebration for the Hungarians of St. Stephen Church in Dayton. The Rev. Michael Holloran, pastor of St. Stephen, celebrated his 25th year as a Roman Catholic priest. Nearly 400 parishioners, including many WPA members, attended the celebration. St. Stephen is located in "Old North Dayton" where four ethnic parishes are located within one mile of each other: St. Stephen (Hungarian), Holy Cross (Lithuanian), St. Adalbert (Polish) and Our Lady of the Rosary (German). Father Holloran has lived in our community for 11 years, during which time he has proven to be the protector of the ethnic identities of these four parishes. Father Holloran started out as pastor of St. Adalbert and Holy Cross in 1996. Then, the Rev. Anthony Dattilo, pastor of St. Stephen and Our Lady of the Rosary, was reassigned. With the approval of the Most Rev. Daniel Pilarczyk, archbishop of Cincinnati, Father Holloran then took on all four parishes in 2001. What a challenge. Four ethnic parishes, distinctly individual, celebrating their designated ethnic heritages and not always getting along. For the sake of survival, it became Father Holloran's mission to bring all four parishes together. It became known as "Father Mike's United Nations." He did this by selecting key members from each parish to form a new committee, the Four Parish Committee (a.k.a. The Four Parishes of Old North Dayton and The Building Committee). Under Father Holloran's direction, we have published a cookbook featuring ethnic recipes which has sold more than 3,000 copies. We organize an annual Mardi Gras and Harvest Picnic (with a live Polish band). We have also planned Father Holloran's surprise 50th birthday party and his 20th and 25th anniversaries. All four parishes conjoin and take part in many holiday celebrations. We support RCIA, the youth group and the elementary school at 18 William Penn Life,July 2007
