Branch News married on Feb. 14 during halftime of the Detroit Pistons game. Dennis is the grandson of Branch Vice President Helen Molnár. Do you live in New Jersey? Would you like to earn a nice living selling WPA insurance? We are in need of people to handle that very lucrative area. Please call Mark Lantz at 1-800- 848-7366, ext. 134. You will be glad you did. The Hungarian Arts Club event was well attended by Branch 18 members. It is always such a wonderful event. Thank you to the Home Office for your never-ending support. Many thanks to Steve Evans, Steve Charles and all those who renovated the top floor of the carriage house at the Home Office. You did a wonderful job. You impressed many of us. We will have a Chinese auction at the Annual Bowling Tournament. Please bring your donations to the tournament registration desk on Friday, May 5. There will be someone there to help you and make sure your donation is put on display. Children's items and lottery tickets seem to be the most sought-after prizes and generate the most revenue. All proceeds from the auction go to the WPA's scholarship foundation. Branch 18 will resume their regular membership meetings on Wednesday, April 19, at 7:00 p.m. at the Hungarian Reformed Church. We hope to see you there. We wish you a blessed Easter season. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH ___ by Kathy Novak Wishing a blessed Easter to all with the joy of beautiful spring days ahead. In keeping with tradition, the Youngstown American Hungarian Federation March 12 held its annual program commemorating the anniversary of the 1848 War of Independence. This year's program had a little splash of everything. Kalman Molnár was the honored Hungarian speaker. He, as always, shared with us his vast wealth of Hungarian knowledge. He also recited the famous poem, "Nemzeti Dal." The Youngstown Hungarian Choir sang several selections befitting the theme of the event. New to the program were Victoria Polgar and Madeline Frahler who played several selections on their violins. The English speaker for the event was WPA member Leslie Polgar Jr., who gave a wonderful presentation. Also new to the area and this program were the Magyar dancers. Paula Horvath has restarted a Hungarian dance group in our area. If you are interested in joining, call her at 330-782-4738. Returning to the program this year was Endre Check II, sharing his cimbalom playing. Rounding out the day was Joe Losoncy playing the piano and leading a brief sing-along. As with all Hungarian gatherings, this one closed with fellowship and Hungarian treats and refreshments. Looking forward to the Annual Bowling Tournament. It's always so nice to be able to visit with everyone at this fraternal event. Looking ahead, we'd like to remind everyone of two bus trips being sponsored out of the Youngstown area. First, Branch 28 will be arranging a bus trip to the WPA Picnic-A Great Fraternal Fest to be held Sept. 16 at Penn Scenic View in Rockwood, Pa. For more information and reservations, call Steve Novak at 330-746- 7704. Secondly, we will have a bus returning to Penn Scenic View on Saturday, Oct. 21, for the event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. This bus trip is being arranged by the Youngstown American Hungarian Federation. For more information and reservations, call Frank Schauer at 330-549-2935. Best wishes to all those special people celebrating birthdays or anniversaries this month. Our sincere condolences to all those families who have recently experienced the loss of a loved one. For your life insurance needs, please call Alan Szabó at 330-482- 9994 or Kathy Novak at 330-746-7704. Branch 76 Philadelphia, PA by Jack Tokár We want to give a big "thank you" to all the loyal members of the William Penn Association, especially those who are members of our own Branch 76. We are all constantly bombarded with advertisements promising wonderful deals on insurance. However, a close analysis reveals that these companies really charge more than our fraternal, non-profit organization. Tell your friends about the benefits of WPA membership: life insurance, annuities, scholarships, fraternal activities, charitable opportunities and others. We want to send a special "hello and thank you" to John Provasnik and his friend, Michael Markoff. We hope to have a chance to get to know you both better. This has been an unusual winter in the Philadelphia area. The weather has been extremely variable: one day it is unusually warm; the next day extremely cold. It is like the saying: "The only thing we can count on is change itself." The biggest change for Hungarian- Americans in the Philadelphia area is the planned sale of the Philadelphia Hungarian Club. An offer has been made, but we do not know when the plans will be finalized. In the meantime, the officers of the Magyar Otthon have been trying to keep things running as close to normal as possible. In February, the planned Valentine's Day dance was cancelled because of a severe snow storm. In March, there were plans for the traditional remembrance of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848. We wish all the best to those who have recently celebrated-or will soon be celebrating-birthdays and anniversaries. May the coming year bring many joys and few tears. We at Branch 76 wish everyone a happy and blessed Easter. William Penn Life, April 2006 15
