tant for any organization to have new (and younger) members to replace those who want to cut back on their activities. We could use help from people who have the skills to set up a data base of our branch members. Personally speaking, we had a rather sad December due to the death of my step-father, Richard Heubach. He was 95 and had a good, long, healthy life. He died very peacefully in his sleep in his own home. However, we miss him and his oft-repeated sayings. We are particularly grateful to Stephen Pokomy for his gift to the WPA Scholarship Foundation in memory of my step-father. There could not be a better remembrance than providing someone with an opportunity for education. As executrix of my step-father's estate, I received a first-hand reminder that things change faster than we realize. My step-father was a very careful man who took great pride in providing for his future. However, he took out his life insurance policies in 1942 and 1947. At that time, the face amounts ($1,850 and $2,500) were more than adequate. However, his very modest funeral cost almost $10,000. He had obviously not thought about updating his policies as the prices increased. What about you? We recommend very strongly that you look over your coverage for your life, cars and home. The value of housing has increased so much in the last few years that few of us have kept our coverage at an adequate level. If you want to make any changes in your life insurance, or take out an annuity, do not hesitate to call us at 215-357-4516. (Since the WPA does not offer homeowner's or auto insurance, we recommended you get in touch with those agents who do.) Keep well! We wish you a warm and healthy winter. Branch 88 Rural Valley, PA by Joe Chobody At the December meeting of Branch 88, final preparations were made for the Branch Christmas party. NominaBranch News tion and election of officers were also held. New officers for 2005 are: Dennis Chobody, president; Sam Mikita, vice president; Sherri Wilson, secretary-treasurer; and Tom Baculik, Jack Baculik and Joe Chobody, auditors. The branch Christmas party was held on Dec. 12. A nice crowd was on hand and all had a good time. Thanks to the Home Office for the items for the treat bags and the generous financial help. Also, thanks to Dennis and Kathy Chobody and Ron Daymut for all their help. The branch will hold its annual party on Sunday, Feb. 13, at 3:00 p.m. in the club social hall. As always, there will be plenty of good food and fraternalism. Come and have a good time with us. We hope that all had a merry Christmas and wish all a happy and prosperous new year. Branch 89 Homestead, PA by Ruth D. Toth Our annual family Christmas party was celebrated at the Homeville Fire Hall in West Mifflin, Pa., on Dec. 4. Not only did the weather cooperate with us, but also our attendance was good with all anxious for the party to begin. The party began with welcoming remarks and was followed by an appearance by Glitter Dot and Dapper, a clown and magic act which was thoroughly enjoyed by adults and children alike. At one point, the kids couldn't get dose enough and were invited by Glitter Dot to come down and sit in front on the floor and enjoy the show. They were truly amazing and had the crowd laughing and anxiously volunteering to participate in the show. Stephanie Wittpenn, one of our members who at first was afraid of the clown, said halfway through the show that these clowns are silly, and she went up front for a closer view. Following the show, a scrumptious buffet luncheon, accompanied by punch and assorted beverages, was enjoyed by all. All of this led up to the highlight of the day: a visit from Santa Claus. What a wonderful welcome he received. Santa greeted the group with a "Ho! Ho! Ho!" and eagerly awaited the arrival of the children with their Christmas requests. Once the children were done talking to Santa, they received stockings from the branch stuffed with various goodies, including apples, oranges and candy. Our Christmas party was, indeed, a huge success! As one of the adults exclaimed: "Boy! I wish I was a kid again so I could get a stocking." Another member, Dorothy Smith, was heard telling people nearby that only at the WPA could the kids be treated to not only a party but also entertainment and gifts. The officers and members of Branch 89 thank the National Officers and members of the Board for making it possible to have the family Christmas party. We trust that everyone had a merry Christmas and that your new year will be filled with good health, happiness and prosperity. The officers for the year 2005 are: Elmer W. Toth, president; Richard W. Toth, vice president; Ruth D. Toth, secretary-treasurer; and Elaine M. Toth and Lisa Susan Toth, auditors. Branch 90 Allentown, PA Branch 98 Bethlehem, PA Branch 216 Northampton, PA by Nancy Kovach Piappy New Year! May 2005 be a wonderful year for all! On Dec. 5 our annual Christmas party was held in Emmaus, Pa. Children and their parents were welcomed by Robert and Nancy Kovach, Betsy Griffith and Cindy Liesau. Refreshments and fellowship were enjoyed by everyone, even though the McDonald's where we held the party was being renovated. It was a beautiful sunny day and our spirits were high. We sang Christmas carols and 18 William Penn Life, February 2005
