Branch 76 Philadelphia, PA by Jack Tokár As usual, we have been very busy the past few months, trying to do our best to make the Hungarian Club of Philadelphia survive financially and keeping the beautiful grounds presentable. When our former president resigned, Vice President Anna Dobo stepped in admirably. In the past few months, we celebrated Memorial Day, the 4th of July, St. Steven's Day and Labor Day. On Oct. 23, we held a Day of Remembrance honoring the 13 Hungarian generals who were hung by the Austrians in 1848 in Erdej (Transylvania) and the 1956 Freedom Fighters, a number of whom are members of our club. Thanks to all the ladies for their hard work on these occasions. A few of them are members of the WPA: Mezei Aranka and Harta Gyöngyi. As usual, the same group of people do most of the work: Fogarasi Kalman, Pavlanski Tibor (program director) and Szabó Szoltan (our emcee). On Nov. 6, there was a general membership meeting held to discuss the future of the club. It seems that we will have to sell, as we can not go on. On Nov. 19, we will hold the annual Erzsébet Bal starting at 7:00 p.m. The evening will include dinner and live music for a donation of $22 Branch News Members of Branch 28 commemorated the anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution by gathering on the grounds of the Franciscan friary in Youngstown, Ohio.
