For Starters WPA co-sponsors two tours to Hungary WPA Foundation seeking donations for tsunami relief PITTSBURGH- The WPA Foundation is now accepting donations to aid in the relief efforts following the catastrophic earthquake and resulting tsunami that devastated Indonesia and other areas in south Asia. WPA members have a proud history of responding in the true spirit of fraternalism when such a need has arisen. We hope you will open your hearts again to aid in this monumental relief effort. All donations will be forwarded to reliable agencies who will see to it that the money will be used where it is needed most. Please note on your check that it is for “tsunami relief.” ‘Niki’ Update Recognize this young woman? Nikoletta Pecsvarady—more affectionately known as Niki—came to the U.S. 17 years ago for treatment of a rare liver disease. Then only four years old, she underwent two liver transplants and several months of recovery before being allowed to return to her native Hungary. Touched by her and her families plight, the WPA and its members contributed $9,000 to her medical expenses. Now 21, Niki leads a normal life in her hometown of Sárospatak where she is studying at the local teacher’s college. PITTSBURGH - The WPA and Magyar Marketing are teaming up again to sponsor two trips to Hun­gary this year, one in May and another in September. The first trip, "Treasures of Folk Arts and Gastronomy in Hungary," leaves May 25 and returns June 4. It includes visits to Budapest, Pápa, Sárvár, Herend, Tihany, Pécs, Kalocsa, Kiskunhalas, Szeged, Hód­mezővásárhely, Debrecen, Máriapócs, the Reformed churches of Eastern Hungary, Eger and the Domony Valley. Cost is $2,850 per person. The second tour, "A Touch of Hungary and Transylvania," lives up PITTSBURGH - The WPA is pleased to open nominations for the 2005 Fratemalist of the Year program sponsored by the National Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA). Mem­bers interested in nominating some­one from their local branch can do so by obtaining an official nomination form from the WPA Home Office. The award is given annually to the member of one of the NFCA's member societies who, throughout the past year, exhibited extraordinary acts of fraternalism, provided outstanding volunteer service in the community and uncommon leadership in his or her local branch. All entries received by May 31 will be considered by a to its name. Leaving Sept. 25 and returning Oct. 7, this tour will include visits to sights in Hungary and Transylvania, including Budapest, Kalocsa, Kiskunhalas, Szeged, Arad, Kalotaszeg, Sovata, Korond, Farkas­laka, Csíksomlyó, Cluj-Napoca, Hortobágy, Eger, Lake Balaton and Herend.
