Soon we will be celebrating Thanksgiving. During the holiday, we gather as thankful people. Our nation, Branch News families and churches will pause to give thanks. Turkey and the trimmings are the centerpiece of most Thanksgiving dinners. It's a time in our busy lives to slow our pace and gather with people we love. As we are surrounded by family and friends, we become more aware of the many blessings in our lives. When we read scripture, it reminds us that all of us are to give thanks at all times for all that God has given us. Branch 800 will observe our 68th annual Thanksgiving Day Memorial Mass for our deceased members on Thanksgiving morning at 9:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona. We ask members to attend and bring a non-perishable food item for the poor. This Veterans Day, Nov. 11, let us give honor to all men and women who are serving our country everywhere in the world and bravely bearing arms for our country's cause. They are fighting terrorism-a new kind of war-to protect the freedoms we hold so dear. Happy birthday greetings to Myron Yeager who will be celebrating his 86th birthday on Dec. 3. May the good Lord bless you and your wife Mary with good health. On Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 7:00 p.m., we will meet to nominate, elect and install new officers for our branch. Members are asked to attend this important meeting. Our branch's annual Christmas party is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 11, at 6:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 3306 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona. All members, their families and friends are invited to enjoy a catered holiday dinner. Santa Claus will be coming to give treats to all kids and adults. Call me at 814-695-0213 for reservations.
