Branch News WPA sales agent Noreen Fritz explains the many benefits of WPA membership to those gathered at the Branch 8114 steak fry. Branch 352 Coraopolis, PA by Barb Kapinus A young member of Branch 352, Summer Tissue, has taken on a tremendous responsibility in her spare time, sending gift boxes to men and women serving in the armed forces overseas. This heartwarming effort is part of a good deed called "Military Connections." Summer's enthusiasm is so refreshing, to say the least, since her full-time job exceeds the average 40- hour work week. If you know of someone you would like her to add to this effort, please send her a note at 510 Cresthaven Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15239. Or, call her at 412-496-8941. You may send her a monetary donation to help cover expenses, or you may send items to be included in future gift boxes, such as socks, snacks, sunscreen, shampoo, handiwipes and writing tablets. Please let Summer know of your interest in this great endeavor. Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank Our branch members, families, kids and friends had an enjoyable time at the branch's summer picnic held in August. The weather, food and prizes were excellent. Thanks to all those who helped make it a nice time for all the kids and adults. A belated birthday wish goes out to Branch Auditor Dave Greiner. His birthday was in September. May God bless you in every way, Dave. Thank you for sharing this with your fellow branch members. Here in central Pennsylvania, we're focusing on the autumn season. We are already seeing the shadows get longer and pumpkins are showing up everywhere. That means one thing: It's October, and that means it's playoff time in major league baseball. Good luck to your favorite team. On Sunday, Oct. 30, at 2:00 a.m., daylight savings time comes to an end. So, turn all clocks back one hour before bed time. It's also a good time to replace the batteries in your home's smoke detectors. Halloween comes on Oct. 31. It's the time for ghosts and goblins and a lot of fun for kids and adults who enjoy getting spooked and scared. Happy Halloween to all of you. Our annual memorial Mass for deceased members will be held Thanksgiving Day at 9:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona. Also, our branch Christmas party will be held Sunday, Dec. 11, at 6:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 3306 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona. For more information, call 814-695-0213. The branch election of officers will be held Dec. 6 at 7:00 p.m. We encourage all members to attend this important meeting. Have you checked your insurance policies lately to see if your address and beneficiary information is up to date? Don't wait. Call Bob Jones at 814-942-2661 if information needs to be updated. Bob is also ready to help you and your friends obtain life insurance and annuities from our fraternal association. Branch 8114 Clarion, PA by Noreen Fritz Once again the branch steak fry was fun and successful! Many thanks to all the special people for their planning and hard work that made the dinner so enjoyable for our members. If I can be of assistance with life insurance, annuities, IRA's or retirement planning, I can be reached at 412-821- 1837, or P.O. Box 15060, Pittsburgh, PA 15209. You will always receive my undivided attention. Branch 8121 St. Marys, PA by Margaret Marconi We held a regular business meeting Sept. 15 at St. Marys Annex. We discussed plans for an upcoming Mass to be celebrated in honor of our living and deceased members. We also agreed to send a donation to the Red Cross to aid the victims of the hurricanes. We thank the WPA for the scholarship grant it awarded to one of our young members. William Penn Life, October 2005 19
