Branch News many faces that had not been seen before. We hope that all those who enjoyed the celebration will continue to support the Club's activities. The Memorial Day program was directed by Tibor Pavianski from the Hero Monument in front of the Club. The monument honors heroes from the Revolutionary War to the present day. Our thanks go to all the ladies who baked their popular retes and sutemeny. Marika Tormási brought in 100 delicious palacsinta. Everyone was thankful to Anne (Csopi) Dobo, who was kind enough to take over the responsibility for the picnic after the president of the Hungarian Club resigned. Luckily, everyone was united in lining up behind Csopi to make the day so successful. Thanks also goes to Kalman Fogarasi for his dedication to the success of the Hungarian Club, to Sophie Bussa for doing all the publications and to all the others who pitched in to help without being asked. The WPA was well represented at the Anniversary Ball for the American Hungarian Foundation. It was good to see many familiar faces: August J. Molnár, president of the AHF; Steve Varga, chairman of the WPA Board of Directors; WPA National Director Anthony C. Beke and wife Marguerite; and WPA National Director Frank J. Radvany and wife Elsie. WPA also made a good showing at the Hungarian Day celebration in New Brunswick, N.J. We regret not seeing Mike Tomcsak and Joan Mauerman there. We want to remind Gyöngyi Harta and all other parents of high school students to apply next year for scholarship assistance provided by the WPA's scholarship foundation. Information on how to apply is advertised in this publication each February through May. If you have any questions about the scholarship program, call the Home Office at 1- 800-848-7366. Thanks to all WPA members for maintaining your membership. We were glad to hear that Rosalie Gogos is doing okay. We want to send a special hello to the Mezei family: Aranka and her son, Otto, and daughter-in-law Myra. Greetings also to Shirley DeMaria and her daughter Kady. We hope you are okay. Please keep in touch. A note to Margaret and Miguel Garcia: we hope you are well and thank you for recommending new members. We welcome back Armand and Laura DeVoe from their winter in Florida. We hope you will have an enjoyable summer at the New Jersey shore. We encourage all Hungarians in and around the Philadelphia area to come and join us at the Philadelphia Hungarian Club, 1125 Southampton Road in the Somerton area of Northeast Philadelphia. For directions, reservations and a schedule of what's happening, please call the club at 215-969-9446. Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank Time has now arrived for our branch's annual summer picnic. We'll be looking to see branch members, families and friends on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 6:00 p.m. at Highland Park in Altoona. We guarantee there will be a pleasant atmosphere to enjoy good food and fellowship. Happy birthday wishes go out to branch member Eleanor R. Cox of Tyrone who will be celebrating her 85th birthday on Aug. 30. Mrs. Cox tells me she is enjoying good health and loves her flowers and playing cards. She is a reader of the William Penn Life. May God bless you, Eleanor. Congratulations also go out from the branch officers to all members celebrating a birthday or wedding anniversary. May the Lord bless all of you. It will soon be time to resume our monthly branch meetings. Our next meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 7:00 p.m. at the Our Lady of Lourdes Religion Education Center, 873 - 27th St., Altoona. All members are welcome to attend. Has your summer vacation been going the way you planned? There is still time this month to get all those outside activities in before September arrives. I often get requests from sick members to be remembered in our prayers. So, I would ask my fellow members to pray for all our members who are ill.
