KATHY KAPOSSYPALASICS CLEVELAND — Members of Branch 14 Cleveland and throughout the Association were saddened by the death of Kathy Kapossy Palasics, the radio voice of Cleveland's Hungarian community and a former instructor at the WPA's Hungarian Language Camp. She died March 3, 2004, of complications from non-Hodgkins lymphoma. She was 79. As a young lady in Hungary, Kathy was an accomplished tennis player and research chemist. She fled Hungary in 1956, settling in Cleveland in 1957 where she worked as a medical technologist. She quickly immersed herself in the affairs of the Hungarian American community. On a voluntary basis she directed and hosted Hungarian radio programs for more than 35 years and served as the chairman of the Nationalities Broadcasters Association. She was also president of the United Hungarian Societies and a member of the Magyar Park board. She served on the boards of both the Ohio Historical Society and Ohio Nursing Homes. She was inducted into the Ohio Women's Hall of Fame in 1998. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Andrew Szabó, and her second husband, Nicholas Haraszthy. She is survived by her husband, John Palasics, (who also served as an instructor at the WPA's Hungarian Language Camp); two daughters, Judy Kisil of Lexington, Ky., and Andrea Lazar of Auburn Township, Ohio; two grandchildren and a great-grandson. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated In Memóriám March 8 at St. Emeric Catholic Church in Cleveland. Donations may be made to the church or to the Lymphoma Society, Northern Ohio Chapter, 902 Westpoint Pkwy., Suite 300, Cleveland, OH 44145. May she rest in peace.
