Br. 296 Springdale, PA LEECHBURG, PA — Congratulations to longtime member John Simon who will be inducted into the Leechburg Hall of Fame March 7 during a dinner in his honor at the Gilpin Fire Hall. John earned this honor through a lifetime of service to his community. He is a true fratemalist in every sense of the word. Bom and raised in Leechburg, John spent the first 83 years of his life there before he and his wife Gertie moved to Fayetteville, Ga., last year to live with their children and grandchildren. Up until that time, John was a fixture throughout the community. It would take a special edition of the William Penn Life to list all of his activities, accomplishments and honors. Following three-and-a-half years of active duty in the U.S. Army during World War II, John returned to Leechburg where he worked for 34 years at Allegheny Ludlum Steel. In his free time, he was active in tions by local artisans and a wonderful array of Hungarian foods. The tour will make a short visit to Kosice in Slovakia (formerly the Hungarian city of Kassa). Guests will also stay in the renovated castle/hotel at Lillafüred. You will also visit the Hortobágy and see one of its wonderful horse shows. He used his woodworking and carpentry skills to make free splints for local patients and to remodel both the local Church of God and the Elks Club.
