For Starters WPA Foundation seeks donations for hurricane victims PITTSBURGH, PA - As if Hurricane Charley wasn't bad enough, two more hurricanes slammed Florida and other parts of the southern U.S. last month and cut a path of destruction all the way up through New England. In their wake, the storms have left many people homeless and many more with the task of starting over. Last month, we called on WPA members to join in the relief efforts for Hurricane Charley. Now, the need is far greater than it was a month ago, and the cost of helping those in need continues to rise. We can not stress enough how desparately your financial assistance is needed. Your donations to the WPA Foundation will help purchase much needed food, clothing and other necessities for those victimized by the recent hurricanes. Please make your tax-deductible donations payable to: "William Penn Association Foundation" and mail them to: Hurricane Refief, c/o William Penn Association, 709 Brighton Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15233. Adopt-A-Table at Penn Scenic View PITTSBURGH, PA — Many guests at this year's WPA Picnic had the opportunity to try out the new picnic tables recently purchased for use at Penn Scenic View. You, your family or your branch can become a permanent sponsor of one of these tables for a donation of $175 to the William Penn Assocation Foundation. Your donation will help cover the cost of the picnic tables. As an "Adopt-A-Table" sponsor, your name will appear on your table. We invite you, your family and your branch to make a tax-deductible donation payable today to "William Penn Association Foundation" and send it to the Home Office. A thank you to our Chinese Auction donors We would like to take this opportunity to thank those listed below for their generous contributions to and support of the three Chinese auctions held this year. All proceeds from these auctions benefitted the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation and our young WPA members seeking a higher education. Through your generosity, the auctions had a total of 170 donated prize packages and raised $9,618. Nearly half of that total was from the auction at the WPA Picnic held last month at Penn Scenic View. The picnic's auction awarded 86 prizes and raised $4,794. In comparison, the auction at the Annual Bowling Tournament in May had 48 prizes and raised $2,754. The auction held during the Annual Golf Tournament in July had 36 prize packages and raised $2,070. Each year, more and more of you, our members, are getting involved with making unique themed prize packages. We appreciate all of the effort you have put forth individualizing these prizes. Again, a big thank you to all who donated and all who supported us by buying tickets. And, yes, we are planning to hold the Chinese auctions in 2005. We hope we can count on your generosity and support again. Dianne A. Charles Barbara A. House Chinese Auction Committee Rose P.
