Branch News grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There is nothing I enjoy more than the hugs and kisses from my little ones. They are all beautiful in their own way. Michelle is a registered nurse in the pediatric oncology ward at Tod's Children's Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. Sonny is an electrician. Michelle is a beautiful girl, and she just sparkled in her bridal gown. The time went too fast, and I hated to leave. Have a happy and healthy 4th of July. Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank Congratulations to Matthew Vincent Georgiana, this year's recipient of Branch 800's annual bond award. This award is given to the graduating male senior who earns the highest grades in religion class at Bishop Guilfoyle High School in Altoona. Matt is the son of Vince and Mary Lou Georgiana of Altoona. Along with our branch award, Matthew received the Joe Cohen Blanket Award as a superior athlete in football. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is listed in "Who's Who Among America's High School Students." He also was crowned king at the school's homecoming. The Rev. Leo Lynch, principal of Bishop Guilfoyle High School, forwarded Matthew's name to our branch secretary in a letter announcing the selection of the winner. Father Lynch said he is very appreciative of our branch's sponsorship of this annual award. Matthew is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Altoona where he was an altar server. He completed his elementary education at St. Mary's and Altoona Central Catholic Middle School. While attending Bishop Guilfoyle, he belonged to the Mission Club, Voice for Life and Latin National Honor Society Club. He volunteered for the Red Cross blood drive, helped younger children develop in sports, took the Students Against Destructive Decisions pledge against drunk driving and performed 25 hours of community service each year. Matthew also lettered four years in baseball and three years in football. In football, he was selected to the All- State third team, was twice named to the Inter-County Conference all-star team and was selected three times to the Altoona Mirror all-star team. He was also chosen to represent Bishop Guilfoyle in the Lesser Lumber Football Classic in Bellefonte, Pa. this summer. The school conducted its graduation ceremonies on May 26 at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona, with the Most Rev. Joseph V. Adamec, bishop of the Altoona/ Johnstown Diocese as celebrant. Matthew is (obviously) an energetic young man who keeps himself active now that he has graduated. He enjoys lifting weights, running, attending Altoona Curve baseball games and playing in the Big Curve Classic. Matthew will begin classes this fall at Lycoming College where he will play football and major in business. The branch officers congratulate Matthew and all graduating seniors. Our best wishes and prayers are with you all. In other branch news, our summer picnic will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 4, at 6:00 p.m. at Highland Park in Altoona, rain or shine.
