received a copy of "Let's Cook Together," published recently by California employees of Northrop Grumman to celebrate the diverse ethnicities of its employees. Included were Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Filipino, Greek, Hawaiian, Croation, Swedish and more. Happy to say that of the book's 124 recipes, almost 7 percent were of Hungarian origin. That means some of us are continuing to cook Hungarian and passing on to future generations the mouthwatering, stomach-pleasing recipes of our grandmothers and aunts. Every year on the first Sunday of May, the Hungarian Reformed Church in Tarzana, Calif., holds a Hungarian Festival. It's not well publicized, but news is spread by word of mouth through the Hungarian community. There will be music, dancing, games for children along with delicious stuffed cabbage, sausages and pastries. This year's festival will be held May 2 from noon until 8:00 p.m. Incidentally, I have attended the Hungarian Language Camp in the past. Like probably many others of Hungarian descent, I regret ne*having taken an interest in learning Hungarian as a child. It certainly would have been easier to learn! Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank It's Mother's Day on Sunday, May 9. We all know that God has given us many things that we should be grateful for. But, when we were blessed with our moms, we couldn't have asked for anything more. Happy Mother's Day. Our branch members who are ill need our prayers. Some are in hospitals, rehab centers or nursing homes. We hope you all get well soon so you may be able to enjoy the beauty of life. Branch 800 members the Rev. Msgr. Anthony O'Toole and Bill Leberfinger recently passed away. May they rest in peace. Our sympathy to the O'Toole and Leberfinger families. Branch News Several branch family members joined together to view "The Passion of the Christ." All agreed it was a "thumbs up" showing deserving of an Oscar Award next year. Many people's spiritual lives have changed for the better after seeing this movie. Birthday wishes to member Don Jones who is celebrating his 80th birthday this May. He is a retired railroader and enjoys good health. Don and his wife are celebrating 55 years of marriage. They enjoy miniature golf and going to the Lancaster area where they find the best golfing. As Memorial Day (May 31) approaches, we still remember what that day is all about. It is a day to honor those men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to our country. Please remember them on their day. Branch Coordinator Bob Jones is on duty all the time, signing up new members and servicing the needs of our current members. If you have questions about life insurance or annuities, please give Bob a call at 814-942-2661. Branch 8114 Clarion, PA by Noreen Fritz Looking over my calendar for the month, I can't help but notice that May 6 is National Day of Prayer and May 31 is Memorial Day. This would be the perfect time to tie the two days together along with the most beautiful prayer ever, the Lord's Prayer, in honor of those who have died in the service of our nation. Let us never forget those who have died for our freedom. Mother's Day is a day to make all our moms and grandmothers feel as special as they are. There's no love like a mother's love. Happy birthday greetings to Branch 8114 members Norbert Bauer, Jane Carroll, Robert Carroll, Robert Chemicky, Ivan Hook, Jerome Judy, Vado Savelli, Braden Huefner, Stanley Schill, Joseph Stahlman, William Huefner, Amy Bish, Robert Gourley, Carla Smith, Christopher Gatesman, Ann Sarvey, Tiffany Best, Virgil Beary, Gregory Rice, Kathleen Callihan and Donald Schill. Regular branch meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church meeting room. Branch 8121 St. Marys, PA _ by Margaret Marconi The members of Branch 8121 met for a regular business meeting on April 7 at St. Marys Parochial School Annex. This was our first meeting of the new year since we did not meet in January, February or March due to bad weather. So, now it's time for us to catch up on some "thank you's." First, thank you to the William Penn for the $50 donation for the St. Marys food bank during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season. We also thank the Home Office for sending us the bowling raffle tickets, which we purchased or sold. We also thank the two lovely guests we had join us, Arlene and Endre Csornán. They both encouraged us to keep Branch 8121 active. We had thought of closing down the branch, but we are one of the oldest branches in the WPA and we will try to keep it going. We want Arlene and Endre to know that we truly appreciate their visit. They were so kind to travel so far to help us. You are wonderful people. God's love to you. Branch 8320 J____Windber, PA _ by Edward Surkosky On April 4 our branch held a regular meeting at St. Anthony's Church in Windber. We discussed holding a communion breakfast together with the Holy Name Society of the church. We also decided to volunteer at the church's gnocchi dinner. 18 Wiliiu Pen Life, May 2004
