2004-05-01 / 5. szám
Branch News month, Mike is celebrating his 85th birthday and he and Helen are celebrating their 58th wedding anniversary. Lots of love and good wishes to you from your William Penn friends. Welcome new members Lucas Markovits and Jean and William Baranyi. Thanks to Deac Sabo, Liz Piwowarski and the Matecki family (hi, Tom!) for the faith they have in the WPA. Thank you all. Our next Branch 18 event, after our June trip, is our annual branch picnic on Sunday, Aug. 1. More info on this will appear as the time gets closer. We are also planning our biannual 50-year member banquet for later in the year. Please remember the families of our deceased members in your prayers, especially the families of Flora Falus, Viola Holozsi, Louise Kowalski, John Dohányos, Mary Fazekas, Louis Franks, Rose Marie Fazekas, John Perry and Helen Francis. May they rest in peace with the Lord. Congratulations to Chris Bodnar who maintained a 208 average for the Metro High School bowling team this season. He was interviewed on television and by Sport magazine. Gotta be the water in the Toledo area. So many great bowlers come from there. Remember to hug a veteran on Memorial Day and say thank you. Freedom is not free. For your life insurance and annuity needs, the William Penn Association is hard to beat. Call me anytime at 313-383-4472 or 313-294-3997. See you in Cleveland. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH by Kathy Novak Special thoughts and remembrances to all our mothers as their special day is celebrated May 9. What a wonderful expression of love was recently shared between a brother and sister at Cleveland University Hospital. John and Margaret Kramer's daughter Linda Ariza was in need of a kidney transplant for several years. After all the necessary medical examinations were completed, her brother Jack was found to be a compatible donor. The transplant was performed in early March, and we are happy to report that both Linda and Jack are back home and are recovering well. Best wishes are sent to all celebrating a birthday or anniversary. Special happy silver anniversary wishes go out to Jeff and Shelly Toth and Ted and Virginia Kinnick. Get well wishes and special thoughts go out to Danny and Betty Kalosky, the Rev. Msgr. Dezső Torok, Frank Schauer, Frank and Peg Hoffer, Margaret and Lou Sabo and Nicole Tollas. After many years of loyalty and dedication, the Souvenirs of Hungary radio program lost its host, Adrian Check Sr., who passed away over the Easter weekend. His love for Hungarian music allowed the Youngstown area to hear his fine selections weekly. He truly will be missed by all. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family as well as to all those who have recently lost a loved one. We remember all the brave men and women serving in our armed forces and those who have served our country with honor in the past. Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA by Andy McNelis We hope all mothers will enjoy a Mother's day that is as happy and as full as possible. Please remember in your prayers the mothers and grandmothers that are no longer with us; they have a special place in our hearts and with God, and they are always watching over us all. With the approach of the bowling tournament in Cleveland, we are looking forward to seeing all of our friends on the lanes. So dust off your ball, clean your shoes and get ready to bowl. We hope your travel to Ohio is safe and uneventful. I am sad to inform you of the passing of longtime member and special friend, Caroline Mayor. Caroline was laid to rest on Monday, April 12, 2004. Her husband, Bill Mayor, passed away on Jan. 2. Caroline is survived by a number of nephews and nieces. Caroline will always be remembered as the most positive person you ever met; she will certainly be missed. Please keep Caroline and her family in your prayers. I have to tell you of the passing of a young Marine from Hazelwood, Lance Corporal Aric Barr. Although he was not a William Penn member, his grandmother Margaret Uzonyi is a longtime member of Branch 34. Aric and his family were members of the former St. Ann Hungarian Catholic Church in Hazelwood, where he served as an altar boy, as did his two brothers before him. Aric also followed his brothers in joining the United States Marine Corps. His brother Aaron is a staff sergeant and brother Anthony is a corporal, both of whom are serving overseas. Aric entered the Marine Corps in December 2000 and was attached to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. Aric died of injuries received in battle in Iraq on April 3, 2004. Besides his two brothers he is survived by his mother Lisa, father Anthony and sister Alexandra. Please remember Aric and his family in your prayers. With Aric in mind, pause for a moment and say a prayer for all our service men and women, especially those in harms-way, for they are the reason we are safe. Branch members celebrating their birthdays during the month of May include the Rev. Ilona Komjáthy, Lou Kubus, Stanley Bugielski, Aaron Fischer, Kenneth Bashur, Evan Henke, Jonathan Goettler, Steven Karafa, James Nemeth, Janos Kerékgyártó, Alexandra Mecs, Elizabeth Nagy and Gloria Nagy. I'd also like to send a very special birthday wish to my lovely wife, Marguerite. We at the branch hope this year will be a safe, happy and healthy year for all of you. Our next branch meeting will be Williu Pen Life, May 2004 15
