Branch 28 Youngstown, OH ■ : by Kathy Novak Nothing like an old-fashioned Ohio winter to make the anticipation of spring more prominent in everyone's thoughts. Happy 117th anniversary to our wonderful fraternal association. On that thought, many more happy years to all those celebrating their wedding anniversaries. Once again, as you can see by the photo provided by Frank Schauer (on Page 17), we had a wonderful turnout for the 2002 Christmas party. Thanks again to the Home Office and everyone who helped to make this a successful event. Congratulations to Casey Sabo on being one of the few applicants to be selected to be a member of the Cirque Du Soleil. Casey has been active in gymnastics since she was 5 years old and has competed in many national and international events. I'm sure she'll do wonderfully and enjoy every moment of this adventure. I know grandma and grandpa, Margaret and Lou Sabo, as well as parents Richard and Sandy Sabo, and all of her relatives are very proud of her. Branch 28 will be conducting a random drawing at each monthly meeting. To learn more about it, attend our next meeting on Monday, March 17, at 6:30 p.m. at the Denny's Restaurant in Boardman. Due to a recent illness of Branch Auditor Eugene Sakasits, a special election was held during which Maria Goda was elected as temporary auditor. Get well wishes to everyone not feeling up to par these days. Happy birthday to all those celebrating their special day. Our sympathy goes to all those having recently lost a loved one. May God's blessings also be upon the victims of the Columbia disaster and their family members. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the men and women striving to preserve the safety of this wonderBranch News ful nation we live in. Branch 76 Philadelphia, PA by Jack Tokár Branch 76 wishes all of you a happy, healthy and peaceful 2003. We especially want to wish the best to the families or servicemen and women in these uncertain times. The branch Christmas party was held on Dec. 14. It was a big success, with many people and their children and grandchildren in attendance. The children were invited from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. to see Santa and enjoy the gifts and candy provided by the branch and the WPA. Adult members of the Philadelphia Hungarian Club joined our branch adult members from 7:00 p.m. on. As usual, the party was a joint affair with the Club. The branch election of officers was held in Feasterville, Pa. Reelected to serve in 2003 were: Jack Tokár, president; Stephen Pokomy, vice president; Bette Lewis Tokár, secretary-treasurer; and James Pokorny and Stephen Pokomy, auditors. Branch meetings are held on the fourth Friday of each month at the Philadelphia Hungarian Club, 1125 Southampton Road, Philadelphia. Branch 76 welcomes our newest members: Aranka Mezei, Veronika Farkas, Gizella Rozman, Joe Mezei and his wife Marianna Mezei, Thomas Fogarasi and his son Thomas Robert Fogarasi. We also want to give special thanks to Aranka Mezei for passing on the good news about the benefits of insuring with the WPA. We also want to give a big thank you to Agnes Hammond for insuring her grandson, Donald Richard Hartman. Finally, we want to congratulate Mike and Pat Hart who have chosen to begin investing in WPA annuities. They have certainly made a wise decision. Branch 129 Columbus, OH by Arpad Sibrik Greetings from the beautiful, winter wonderland. It looks like winter is here to stay. More snow again today.... On Feb. 12, there was a celebration in the chambers of the Ohio House of Representatives featuring a more than 100-year-old manuscript by Louis Kossuth along with other historical documents from the State House library. Afterwards there was a reception in the State House gallery. This winter has been hard on several members. Debbie Vecchiarelli underwent surgery, came through fine and is recuperating at home. Janet A. Lawton (Vegh) fell on ice and broke her ankle. She is still not allowed to drive. Frank Peterfy had surgery and is getting better at his winter home in Florida, but he still cannot play golf until he gets the okay from his doctor. Congratulations to Kim, our oldest daughter, on her recent engagement to John Gordon. They will be wed this month. We will have a reception for the happy couple on March 22 at the Hungarian church. 18 WDliu Pm lie, March 2003
