anticipate having our branch meeting on the last Sunday of this month at 2:00 p.m. at the McKeesport Hungarian Social Club (Western Pa. Hungarian Educational and Cultural Center, Inc.), 3004 Walnut St., McKeesport. Birthday greetings are sent out to Mike Benedict (Feb. 15) and Bette Hoffman (Feb. 23). Belated birthday wishes to Violet Lenart, who celebrated her birthday Jan. 29. May you all have many more in good health. We also would like to send anniversary and birthday wishes to our members who may be celebrating this month. We would like to extend a sincere welcome to two new Branch 226 members: Betty Kiska and Joan Bicsey. We are pleased to have both of you in our great fraternal family. At this time, I must say that I received many comments from members and friends on how much they enjoy Chef Vilmos' "Treasured Recipes" section. These comments came not only from ladies, but also men. Keep them rolling in! We remind all students who are WPA members to submit their applications for scholarship grants to the Home Office by May 31. A jó Isten legyen veletek. (May God be with you.) Branch 249 Dayton, OH by Anne Marie Schmidt The officers of Branch 249 would like to extend to all our members the wish for a healthy and happy new year. We look forward to a busy, productive year with our usual activities. The bowling league is going very well at Pla-Mor Lanes on Sunday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. We invite our members and their friends to join us next year. We will once again be chartering a bus to the WPA Annual Bowling Tournament, which will be held in Pittsburgh this May. Our semi-annual cabbage roll sale will be held on March 27 at St. Stephen's Church Hall. Please call your orders in by March 21 to Michele LaFlame at 278-5970, Anne Kertesz at 275-6654 or Anne Marie Schmidt at Branch News 667-1211. The cost is $1.25 per cabbage roll. Our condolences are extended to the family of Mary Motko, wife of former Branch President John Motko, who passed away last year. Mr. and Mrs. Motko were dedicated supporters of the WPA and active members of Branch 249 for many years. Remember to contact Steve or Michele LaFlame, our insurance representatives, for any of your needs, including information on WPA annuities. They can be reached by calling 278-5970. Branch 590 Cape Coral, FL by Joan Mauerman Branch 590 held its first meeting of 2003 on Jan. 9 at Egret Hall, Cape Coral. Tentative plans were discussed for the year. By unanimous vote, we agreed that the Christmas party will be held at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theater. Date to be announced. We will also host two picnics. One will be held in October, the date for the other will be decided upon at the March meeting. An informal discussion was held during which members shared stories of their families' holiday traditions. Everyone seemed to enjoy the discussion, and we plan to do it again. Some people even agreed to share recipes. Tickets were passed out for our annual half-and-half scholarship raffle. The drawing will take place May 1. Door prize winners were Rose Darab, Helen Toth and Tony Di Guilio. Get well wishes go out to Elizabeth Posey and Kalman Nagy. Hope you are feeling better. Our condolences are extended to the family of Jack Richards, who passed away in December. We will miss his smile. Our condolences also go out to the family of Rozalia Szlabonyi. May they rest in peace. Happy birthday wishes go out to Joanie Maurman, Pam Damon, Joe Mekler and Irene Slauterbeck. For all your life insurance needs, call Mike Tomcsak at 863-858-8071. Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank Branch 800 wishes a Happy Valentine's Day to all members of the WPA. This is a day for showing a little extra love to our loved ones. Prominent ways to show that love include sending a card, candy or flowers, or making a phone call. The WPA will celebrate its 117th anniversary on Founders Day, Feb. 21. Branch 800 members send our congratulations to our Association's National Officers, Board of Directors and Home Office staff. Our branch held its annual Christmas party. It was attended by 52 adults and 24 children. A very good meal was prepared by All Occasions Caterers for this affair. A big "Thank You" to the Home Office for the monetary help and the many gifts for the children. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus came and gave out the gifts to the kids. All adults received a Christmas gift and the WPA's beautiful 2003 calendar. Dan Greiner was in charge of the picture taking. George Dorman led us in carol singing. (Thanks to the Home Office for the carol books.) Thanks to anyone who helped in any way. We thank the Rev. John Neugebauer and the Rev.
