Branch 13 Trenton, NJ by Elsie H. Radvany We congratulate Endre Csornán, membership activities manager, the staff and all members of his committee for organizing the most successful fraternal event of the year: the WPA picnic held Sept. 14 at Penn Scenic View. Members, especially children, enjoyed fraternal fellowship, good Hungarian food and various events that entertained everyone who attended. Our facilities at Penn Scenic View were the ideal location for a picnic. Everyone is looking forward to our next event there. We also congratulate Branch 13 member Shira Gordon who received a WPA scholarship award. Shira is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gordon of Newton, Pa., and the granddaughter of National Director Frank J. Radvany and his wife Elsie. Shira graduated from Council Rock High School in Newton with high honors and is now attending the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. We wish her and all other WPA scholarship recipients the very best in their pursuit of higher education. We thank the Scholarship Foundation for providing this most worthwhile fraternal benefit. Branch 13 will hold its annual election meeting and family Christmas party on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2:00 p.m. at the American Hungarian Democratic Citizens Club, 1051S. Clinton Ave., Trenton. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend. For your life insurance needs, contact Elsie H. Radvany, 2002 Yardley Road, Morrisville, PA 19067. Or, call her at 215-295-2222. Branch 14 Cleveland, OH by Dawn D. Ward Branch 14 will sponsor a "Night at the Races" at Northfield Park Friday, Oct. 18. Members will first enjoy a delicious buffet dinner then place their bets to win, place or show. The highlight of the evening will be when Branch News Dawn Ward (!) and Julie Domiano of Branch 14 Cleveland enjoy an evening discussing their Hungarian roots at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulfur Springs, W.Va. the announcement is made that one of the races is dedicated to Branch 14 of the WPA, and the members will have their picture taken with the winning jockey and his horse. We hope the members attending that evening will come home with thicker wallets! Branch 14 is also going to sponsor a bus trip to Oglebay Park, W.Va., Saturday, Nov. 23. The cost is $25 per person, and it includes a buffet dinner, admission to the casino in Wheeling and an evening tour of the magnificent Christmas lights. There will be ample time to shop in the famous Oglebay Park Christmas gift shop. The bus will depart from the First Hungarian Reformed Church in Walton Hills between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m.. For more information and reservations contact Violet Sarosi at 440-248-9012. The annual children's Christmas party will be held Sunday, Dec. 1, at the Bethlen Hall of the First Hungarian Reformed Church, Walton Hüls, Ohio, at 1:30 p.m. Branch 14 juvenile members ages 12 and under will receive invitations, but all Branch 14 members are welcome to attend. Adult members who would like to attend without children should contact Branch 14 President Caroline Lanzara at 216-581-8979. ZAP and Auntie Gravity will perform a magic show with a special presentation called "Magic of Bubbles." On a personal note, Jeff, Erin, and I were pleasantly surprised to make the acquaintance of longtime Branch 14 member Julie (Birinyi) Domiano at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., last month. Julie was there with her husband, Joe Domiano, a familiar face to all Clevelanders, as a partner in Cleveland's premier plaintiffs' attorney firm of Friedman, Domiano, and Smith. We were also pleased to meet their friends Bob and Gerrie Deacon of Highland Heights, Ohio. After leaving the Greenbrier, they travelled to Julie's hometown of Logan, W.Va., where she originally became a member of the Verhovay. This chance meeting led to an evening of reminiscing about the Verhovay Hall on Buckeye Road and growing up in a coal mining town, just like my mom, Emma Oris. This is just another example of how the WPA creates bonds that last forever. Congratulations to Branch 14 scholarship recipient Peter Sustarsic, grandson of longtime members Stanley and Elizabeth Sustarsic of Broadview Heights, Ohio. Peter is a junior at Kent State University majoring in music education, and he was named to the Dean's List spring semester of his sophomore year. Peter plays the drums and vibraphone and is involved in several musical groups at Kent State, including the percussion ensemble, orchestra, wind ensemble, and Flash in the Pan Steel Drum Band. We are very proud of our scholarship recipients! Please contact Dawn Ward at 440- 838-1200 with information regarding the accomplishments of Branch 14 students. Branch 14 continues to grow, and we are proud to announce the addition of the following new members: Jim Almady, Kara Kramp, Robert Kramp, Kyle Friedman, Hannah Friedman and Gerald Unger. The next Branch 14 meeting will be held Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m.. at the Bethlen Hall of the First Hungarian Reformed Church, 14530 Alexander Rd., Walton Hills, Ohio. All Branch 14 members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Itíllian Penn life, November 2002 15
