Our branch decided to sponsor five holiday baskets this year for those in need. Thank you to the Board of Directors for supporting this worthy program. Nick Koricich, I can't keep up with all of your donations. The scholarship foundation thanks you for your continued generosity. Many get well thoughts and prayers are with George Charles and Elsie Drab. Hope you are both feeling better with each new day. Our branch extends deepest sympathy to the families of branch members Steve Szuch and Carolyn Tady. May memories of your loved ones comfort you and bring you peace. We hold our monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Springdale at 7:30 p.m. The next scheduled meeting is on March 14, weather permitting. We encourage and welcome all branch members to attend. For your life insurance and annuity needs, call Noreen Fritz at (412) 821-1837. If you have branch news to share, call me at (724) 339-2445. A happy, healthy and safe new year to all! Branch 590 "\ Cape Coral, FL by Joan Mauerman Branch 590 held its election meeting on Dec. 8 at the annex room of the Broadway Palm Theatre prior to attending the dinner and show. In a unanimous vote, the branch reelected Mike Tomcsak as president, Rose Darab as vice president and Joan Mauerman as secretary-treasurer. John Lesko, election officer, swore in the officers. Everyone agreed the food was delicious and the show was wonderful. Door prize winners were Julia Nagy, Vi Timmer Shinski, Margaret Menner and Kalman Nagy. The halfand-half winners were Mr. Lesko and Ms. Mauerman. Our next meeting will be held Feb. 7 in Egret Hall, Cape Coral. We were happy to see Elizabeth Posey, but we missed Mary and Joe Mekler. The branch, with help from the Home Office, donated three Holiday Baskets to those less fortunate. Our condolences to the family of Julius Szabó who was president and branch coordinator for Branch 26 Sharon, Pa. The last time we were in Youngstown, Ohio, we had lunch with Julius and Marge. May he rest in peace. My newest great-granddaughter, Cassidy Dues bom Oct. 24 in Lakeland, Fla., is finally home from the hospital. She underwent open heart surgery at St. Joseph's in Tampa, Fla. It broke my heart to see her with all those tubes in her. She is truly our little angel. She smiles and coos, and she loves to be held. We thank God for her recovery. She was on prayer lists at the Baptist church in Texas, at the Presbyterian church in New Jersey and at Catholic churches in Ohio, Florida and Texas. We thank all our friends for their prayers. Happy new year to Veronica Weingart in Riverside, Calif. We love you. Happy birthday to Carrie Damon, Leslie Naples, Julia McGrath, Joanie Mauerman, Bill Bartus, Irene Redden and Joe Mekler. If you have any information you would like to share, please let me know. Happy new year to all. For all your life insurance needs, please call (863) 858-8071. Ask Mike about the new WPA insurance and annuity plans. Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank We have now entered the new year 2002 and your branch wishes that all members and your families will enjoy good health and be free from illness throughout this year. Let us pray for our President so that he will receive guidance from the Lord to lead us to a successful elimination of terrorism throughout the world. We don't want to see another terrible tragedy as we did Sept. 11. The agenda for our Dec. 3 meeting included the election of officers. Branch 800 reelected its officers to serve another term in 2002. They are: Vincent Frank, president; Daniel Greiner, vice president; George Dorman, secretary; Robert Jones, treasurer; and Melvin Frank, Robert Aiken and David Greiner, auditors. We thank the Home Office for continuing the annual Holiday Basket program at Christmastime. This year we made three needy families happy, and they were very appreciative of the baskets during the holiday season. Branch 800 held its annual Christmas party on Dec. 2 at the Days Inn in Altoona. It was a big success with many adults and kids attending. All were given the beautiful WPA 2002 calendar as they entered the door. A good catered dinner was served, followed by the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus. Many pictures were taken of the 22 kids receiving their treats furnished by the Home Office. All the adults also received a Christmas gift. We closed the party by singing Christmas carols from the song books provided by the Home Office. We thank the Home Office for everything they sent us and for helping to make our party so enjoyable. Thanks also to Branch Auditor Dave Greiner who is employed at the Days Inn. He made sure the room was prepared properly and decorated the Christmas tree himself. The plush chairs and large round tables made the party even more enjoyable. A first class job. Many thanks to him and all those who helped in any way to make it a special holiday party.
