the Home Office for its generous help in making our party a success. Looking back, 2001 was a very active year at our club. In addition to the annual membership party in February, other branch activities included two fish fries, a weiner roast, "Woodstock Night," and our annual bacon roast. Fundraising activities aided SIDS research and New York disaster relief, as well as the WPA scholarship fund. Here's hoping 2002 will be just as productive. Branch 89 Homestead, PA by Ruth D. Toth Branch 89 held its children's Christmas party Dec. 8 at the Homeville Fire Hall in West Mifflin, Pa. Although the weather was not the best, we had a great turnout. The audience was welcomed by Elmer W. Toth, branch president and vice chairman of the WPA Board of Directors. Mr. Toth introduced our guests, National Director Michael Kara, Membership Activities Manager Endre Csornán and his wife Arlene, and former National Director William C. Kohut. Mr. Kohut donated the fruit that was given to the children in their goodie bags. He has been donating the fruit for many years, and he says he is more than happy to do so. The children were anxious to see magician Dustin Ashbaugh, who provided the entertainment, along with his assistant Miss Julie. The children were kept in awe by the many acts he performed, and all were more than willing to take part in some of the tricks. A buffet luncheon was served and enjoyed by all. Of course, the main event was the appearance of Santa Claus who let out a hearty "Ho! Ho! Ho!" as he entered the hall. The children were given a bag of goodies and a $2 bill as they visited Santa. The party was a huge success. We give our thanks to the following members of Branch 89 who helped at this affair: Elaine Toth, Cindy Toth, Lisa Toth, Helen Shumaker, Tim and Justin Toth, Kim, Richard J. Toth, John S. Toth, WPA Vice President-Secretary Richard W. Toth, and Elmer and Ruth Toth. Elected as branch officers for the year 2002 were: Elmer W. Toth, president; Richard W. Toth, vice president; Ruth D. Toth, secretarytreasurer; and Elaine M. Toth and Lisa Susan Toth, auditors. We send our special thanks to the Home Office staff, National Officers and the Board of Directors for their assistance in making our annual party such a wonderful time. Also, we extend a special "thank you" to our Santa, Robert Kovach. We wish everyone a happy and healthy new year. Branch 90 Allentown, PA Branch 98 Bethlehem, PA Branch 216 Northampton, PA A J by Nancy Kovach ., On Dec. 16 the annual children's Christmas party for the above branches was held at McDonald's Restaurant in Emmaus, Pa. Branch 98 President Robert Kovach welcomed the children and their parents and grandparents. Many of the children have been coming to our branch party for the past eight years. It was a beautiful, sunny afternoon and everyone was in happy spirits. It was nice to be able to get together again. After our special luncheon was served, Santa Claus arrived. The children were very noisy and excited. They all had a turn sitting on Santa's lap for picture-taking and sharing Christmas wishes. Santa gave each child a book, gift certficates and a big bag of goodies. The goodie bags included candy, cookies, an ornament, coloring books, crayons, pens, pencils, rulers and slinkies. The slinkies were the hit of the party, not only with the children but the adults had fun with them, too. Branch 159 Phoenixville, PA by Caroline Vamer A very spring-like day greeted the guests of Branch 159 who gathered at Burger King on Dec. 2 for our branch's family Christmas party. Each family attending received the traditional WPA bag of goodies which everyone, especially the children, looks forward to receiving. Among the goodies inside each bag were coloring books, crayons, sunglasses and rainbow colored slinkies. Even though there were no steps at the restaurant, the children had a real ball with the slinkies and could hardly wait to go home to give them a try on their steps. After lunch was served, Santa made his anxiously awaited appearance. He made mental notes of the children's Christmas requests and had pictures taken with each child. He gave each child a gift and candy. Santa, portrayed by Temple Coldren, also pulled mothers' names for a door prize. Thank you, Temple, for a great job, especially with the children. They think you are the real Santa. A big "thank you" to all who helped make the party a success, especially the Home Office and Board of Directors for their generous finan-16 William Pimm Life, January 2002
