Keep safe. A wonderful day is wished to all fathers this Father's Day. Branch 76 Philadelphia, PA by Jack Tokár We welcome the newest members of our WPA family: József Halasz, Patricia Kemer, Attila Mezei, Erszebet Takacs and Rebecca Mezei (baby daughter of Otto and Myra Mezei). In March we gathered at the Philadelphia Hungarian Club for the March 15th freedom celebration. Our thanks to program director Korvin K. Kalman and the huszarsz-Janos Kiss, Zoltán Szabó and Sándor Kocsis. Rebecca and Julie Tokár looked wonderful in their traditional costumes. Tibor Pavianski delivered the day's main address. Gyöngyi Harta delivered an effective recitation of "Talpar Magyer," Petöfi's poem arousing his fellow Hungarians to take a stand. March 15 is a "Freedom Day" not just for Hungarians but for all peoples and nations who were part of Austria-Hungary under the Habsburgs, including Germans, Slovaks, Czechs, Croats, Horvats, Serbs, Rutain and others. The one goal was equal rights for everyone, regardless of their rank, nobility or ownership of property. When the Habsburgs denied this request, revolution broke out. There were many volunteers from outside of Hungary who participated. This included German, Serb and Polish generals. Our Janos Kiss is a descendant of one of the Hungarian generals who led the revolt. The Hungarian revolutionaries, mainly university students, wanted a representative form of government. Louis Kossuth called it government "for the people, by the people and of the people" in a speech delivered March 15,1848. So it was, and is, our Hungarian heritage: a strong belief in freedom and equal rights for all. Branch 129 Columbus, OH by Arpad Sibrik Congratulations to Ferenc Nick Relle and Lisa M. Schill, both of whom graduated from Miami University. Ferenc will begin studies in dentistry at Ohio State University, and Lisa also would like to become a dentist, like her father. At our next branch meeting on June 13, we will finalize plans for our branch picnic. We will also welcome Endre Csornán, the WPA's membership activities coordinator. Mr. Csornán will give us the latest information about WPA activities, including a picnic to be held Sept. 15 at Penn Scenic View. Several golfers from our branch plan to participate in the WPA's Annual Golf Tournament in Harrisburg, Pa., this July. We will send at least two foursomes for sure. I would love to go, but my doctor does not want me to make the seven-hour drive to Harrisburg. I hope those students interested in a WPA scholarship mailed in their applications. It is a great fraternal benefit. For any life insurance or annuity needs, please call Arpad Sibrik at (614) 231-8024, or write to 645 S. Kellner Road, Columbus, OH 43209. We hope to see you at our June 13 meeting. It will be held at the Hungarian Reformed Church, 365 Woodrow Ave., Columbus, at 7:30 p.m. Branch 800 \ Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank At our May meeting, our branch honored 10 members who had attained 50 years of membership in our Association. Before the presentation of their awards, the members were brought up to date on our branch and Association. Then branch Treasurer/Coordinator Robert Jones presented each honoree in attendance the society's emblem and the remarkable WPA 115th anniversary pen.
