Branch 14 Cleveland, OH By Dawn D. Ward At the branch meeting held Sept. 7, our members decided the branch would sponsor a "Night at the Races" at Northfield Park on Oct. 13 and a dinner theater outing to see Tony 'n Tina's Wedding on Dec. 10. The date for the annual children's Christmas party will be Sunday, Dec. 3. The "Night at the Races" will feature a delicious buffet dinner which our members can enjoy while betting on their favorite trotters. If you're interested in attending, call Branch 14 President Caroline Lanzara at (216) 581-8979. Tony ‘n Tina's Wedding has been described as Cleveland's wackiest wedding. Branch 14 adult members are welcome to "get invited" to a matinee of "love, chaos and pasta" at the Hanna Theatre. The show is such a hit that its run has been extended through April 1,2001. Call Caroline by Oct. 27 if you would like to attend. The Christmas party will be held at the First Hungarian Reformed Church, 14530 Alexander Road, Walton Hills. All Branch 14 juvenile members will receive invitations, but all branch members are welcome. The afternoon will include a buffet lunch, entertainment by Sparkles the Clown and a special Christmas magic show. Santa will also be there with a sack full of toys. We recently began planning our family Christmas party. I can not believe how far in advance you have to line up things. Our party is planned for Dec. 10. Watch this column for all the info as the time gets closer. Thank you to Bela Imry, Tom, Mike and Emma Poliska, Mary Duzy, Rose C. Antal and Doug Truesdell (our wonderful chauffeur) for helping us make another successful visit to the V. A. hospital. As usual, it was a very rewarding experience. Our next visit will be Wednesday, Dec. 13. We are taking gift bags which will be filled from the patients' wish lists. You can help by donating razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, crackers, sugar-free candy, etc. Please contact me to donate or attend. Speaking of veterans, my stepfather Rudy Korpák was recently awarded medals for his service during World War II. I can't tell you how thrilled he was. Congratulations, Rudy. We're very proud of you. Our family has something else its proud of. My grandson David and his wife Kristy became the parents of a little boy named Bishop on Sept. 8. That makes my mom and Rudy great-greatgrandparents. That makes Tom and me great-grandparents. That's something I'll never be able to say aloud. Welcome to our newest WPA member. Please mark your calendars for some changes in meeting dates. We will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 18, since our trip to Traverse City leaves on Oct. 20. Our November meeting will be held on Friday, Nov. 10. The following month, we will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 6. All meetings are held at the Hungarian American Cultural Center beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Center is open for dinner at 5:00 p.m. Please join us. Our 50-year member banquet will be held on Sunday, Oct. 29. If you would like to join us, call me anytime at (313) 383-4472. Betty Holguin and her committee are busy planning our first card party to be held Nov. 26. Cost is $4 and includes beverage, dessert and prizes for all. We have many great large raffle prizes available also. Call Betty at (313) 291-2882 or any officer for tickets. Please remember in your prayers the families of our recently deceased members, Helen Lajtos and James Seres. May they rest in peace. Welcome new WPA member Claire E. Allor! It was also nice to meet George and Nancy Seres and to welcome them as new members of our family. Hope to see you again soon. My thanks to modern technology and Steve Charles for bringing me into the future. You can now e-mail me at tbhouse@home.com. I also invite all of you to visit my wonderful new web page (thanks again, Steve): wivw.barbarahouse.homestead.com. This page will help you with everything from WPA info to travel to the HACC to Hungary. Please visit.
