A speedy recovery is wished for Justine Blair, great-granddaughter of Irene Nemeth. When Justine fractured her arm, doctors found she had a rare life-threatening bone infection. After undergoing surgery to remove part of the bone in her arm, medication and treatment, Justine is bouncing back and, hopefully, on the road to being cured. While Justine was in the hospital, she met Jeff Wilkins, a Youngstown native who plays for the St. Louis Rams professional football team. Jeff was there promoting the hospital's Miracle Network Telethon. Justine did a photo shoot with Jeff, and their picture appeared on local billboards, in newspapers and on TV commercials. Her story was also aired during the telethon. Branch 28 tried to find a community group to work with for Join Hands Day, but few were aware of this new day of service. So, we chose to send cards to nursing home residents and provided refreshments for the June 22 performance of the Uszturu Ensemble at Youngstown State University. Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA By Andy McNelis On the weekend of June 16 to 18, our branch held its getaway and picnic at Penn Scenic View. Coincidentally, June 17 was Join Hands Day, so our branch decided to incorporate the two ideas. We opened the weekend to other local branches and organizations to help spread the fraternal spirit. Happily, I can report the event was quite a success. Over the weekend we were joined by 37 people from various branches, including nine from Magyar Park and two from the local community. Everyone enjoyed the great food prepared by our members under the strict supervision of Chef Kara. Part of our Join Hands Day was spent assisting members who have Margaret Klein, Magdoline Eriwein and Cathy Palmer were among the guests who enjoyed Branch 34 's getaway weekend at Penn Scenic View June 16 to 18. All food collected will help us fill our Holiday Baskets for the needy. • Sunday, July 16, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.: Business meeting, picnic planning, 50/50 raffle, refreshemnts.
