Martha Schuller (left) of Branch 296 Springdale, Pa., was all smiles after winning $232.50 in the 50/50 raffle drawn during Fhday's reception. She receives congratulations from National Vice President-Treasurer (and fellow branch member) Diane Torma. Annual Bowli $10,000 for bowling a perfect game during Saturday's team event. But, that did not seem to bother the bowlers, who thoroughly enjoyed the chance to bowl a few games in the company of good friends. Our thanks to Virginia and Joseph Volter of Branch 14 Cleveland for rolling the official "first balls" and getting the tournament off to a great start. A few lucky bowlers did win some extra cash for scoring a strike at the right time (see next page). For a complete list of teams and bowlers who won prizes during tournament events, turn to Pages 12 and 13. One member who experienced the extremes of good and not-so-good fortune on Saturday was Andrew McNelis III of Branch 34 Pittsburgh. Andy was awarded a "crying" towel for his less-thanstellar performance during the day's team event (which he accepted in the same good-natured spirit with which it was awarded). But, later that night, he wore an even bigger smile when he won the vacation auction raffle which closed the bowling awards dinner. We thank the following for all their hard work which resulted in another successful fraternal weekend: Tournament Administrator Robert A. Ivancso, Tournament Secretary Stephen J. Ivancso Jr., the National Officers and Home Office staff, Tournament Co-Administrators Elmer W. Toth and Andrew W. McNelis, the officers and members of Branch 14 Cleveland (terrific hosts and providers of Saturday's wonderful lunch at the lanes), all those who donated prizes for the scholarship raffle, the bakers who brought delicious pastries, and the staff and management of the Hilton Cleveland South and Cloverleaf Lanes. But, most of all, we thank you, our bowlers and guests, without whom there would be no tournament. We hope to see you all again next year. HUM. | took home extra cash as winners of the Lucky Strike Contest held during the team event. Marguerite McNelis of Branch 34 Pittsburgh was the biggest winner, receiving $300 for being the first and only woman to bowl a “lucky” strike. Below, she receives her prize from tournament co-administrators Elmer W. Toth (on left) and Andrew W. McNelis (who’s also her husband). Charles Sera (bottom right) of Branch 159 Phoenixville, Pa„ won $100, while Brian Beke of Branch 13 Trenton, N.J., (bottom} left) took home an extra $200. VUIIiam Fenn Lile, July 2000 9
