Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA by Andy McNelis On behalf of the officers and members of Branch 34,1 wish a happy and safe new year to all members and their families. At Jameson's Restaurant on Dec. 11, our branch was joined by Branch 71 Duquesne to celebrate the annual family Christmas party. The 110 members that attended were entertained by the magic of Bill Averman. As Christmas music filled the air, the children played a number of games for which prizes were awarded. After lunch, the children joined voices to sing "Jingle Bells" as our special guest, Santa Claus, arrived. There is no sight in the world quite like the face of a child when Santa enters a room. Santa sat and talked with each child and asked what they wanted for Christmas. Then his elves passed out gifts of candy, stuffed animals and envelopes to all the children. Branches 34 and 71 thank the Board of Directors and Home Office for making this holiday season so exceptional for our young members and our members who are young at heart. Jameson's was also the site of our annual branch meeting Dec. 18. National Director Mike Kara conducted the branch election. Elected to serve our branch for the year 2000 were: Andy McNelis, president; Miriam Hager, vice president; Marguerite McNelis, secretarytreasurer; and Bill Mayor and Terri O'Donnell, auditors. Those elected to serve our branch in 2000 were: Arthur Barillo, president; Christine Baldyga, vice president; Richard Mozer, treasurer; Ernest J. Mozer Sr., secretary; and Joseph Baumgartner and Frank Zimmermann, auditors. President Barillo thanked the members for all their faithful assistance during the past year and for making a rough task a lot easier. Entertainment for the party was by Bob the Magician who held the children spellbound with his unbelievable magic tricks. Afterwards, Rita Mozer, Jill Ruckstuhl and Jaime Rubin led all those present in singing the traditional Christmas songs from the booklets supplied by the Home Office. As everyone sang "Jingle Bells", Santa Claus (Gary Smith) made his grand entrance, ringing his bell all the while. Santa, with the help of President Barillo, gave each child a gift. All children received coloring books, crayons, pencils and pens. The adults received pens, key chains, change holders and lovely 2000 WPA calendars. The adults were also asked to purchase policies for their families. After Santa left, all were invited to stay for refreshments and enjoy each other's company. We thank the Home Office for all its assistance in making this party a success. We wish all a very happy and healthy new year. To those recovering from illness, especially Ernie Mozer Sr. who underwent surgery on his knee, we wish a quick recovery. Branch 88 Rural Valley, PA by Joseph Chobody Branch 88 hopes all of its members had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Good luck in 2000. The branch Christmas party was held Dec. 12 at the club social hall. A nice crowd was on hand and all the children got to tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas. Thanks to all who helped. Also, many thanks to the Home Office for its generous help in making our party a success. Branch 89 Homestead, PA by Ruth D. Toth On Dec. 11 Branch 89 held its annual family Christmas party at the Homeville Fire Hall in West Mifflin, Pa. Even though the party was for children, many parents and grandparents came along. Not only did we have a wonderful turnout, but the weather also cooperated with us. The number of children in attendance reflected the many sales of new juvenile policies during the year. Upon entering the hall, each child received a goodie bag. Among the Milliam fpnB ük January 2000
