We have technology which enables us to connect, whether we are driving our cars, traveling around the world or walking on the moon. Yet for all these breakthroughs in technology which have provided us with faster and easier ways to connect, our modern society is showing increasing signs of disconnection and alienation. Kindness is the most simple, powerful and universal way for people to reconnect with each other and bring meaning and joy to their lives and the lives of those they touch. Kindness takes mutual respect and care to the next level-into action. A Home Base for Kindness KindActs is a non-profit organization which serves as a home base for kindness initiatives. If you, your branch or another organization is interested in becoming an "Ambassador for Kindness," you can join KindActs by becoming a sponsor / partner or by sponsoring a mile of Cycling for Kindness. Or, you can simply commit a random act of kindness today.. .and everyday. HD Formerly known as the Vancouver Random Acts of Kindness Fund, its original goal was to inspire people to commit random acts of kindness through street campaigns and public forums. Shortly after it launched its 1998 street campaign, sweeping Vancouver with random acts of kindness, more individuals and organizations with similar goals came on board. Soon, it recognized the need for one place which would facilitate the sharing of resources and ideas between existing kindness initiatives and develop tools that would inspire and guide the further spreading of kindness. Thus, KindActs was formed as a home base and administrative resource for kindness projects. Current Initiatives On Feb. 26, KindActs launched its latest initiative, Cycling for Kindness. It is a seven-month, 10,000-mile bike trek across North America aimed at raising awareness and spreading the message of kindness. Along the way, the tour will stop in over 30 cities in the U.S. and Canada where it will conduct town hall forums. The forums will allow local communities to share kindness stories and discuss kindness initiatives. KindActs' website contains information about its initiatives, other kindness projects and links to the World Kindness Movement. The group continues to conduct street campaigns which promote kindness on the street. The campaigns "It is futile to judge a kind deed by its motives. Kindness can become its own motive. We are made kind by being kind." Eric Hoffer, U.S. philosopher Bringing focus to random acts Willi» Pen Life. June 2000 3
