Branch News by Joan Mauerman Branch 590 member Elizabeth (Lizzie) Damon was inducted into the Golden Key National Society at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. We are very proud of you, Lizzie. Condolences to the families of Yolanda Patyi of Winter Haven, Fla., Vilma Molnár of LeHigh Acres, and John Rosner of Port Charlotte, Fla. May they rest in peace. Seen at the Hungarian dinner in Safety Harbor was Joan Holasek of St. Petersburg, formerly of Cleveland. She helps to make noodles at the church. Her brother Andy Magyar lives in Port Charlotte. He still plays the violin at the cultural center there. Poppy Coleman spent part of her Christmas break visiting her grandmother Irma Kovach. Poppy is a premed student at McAllister College in St. Paul, Minn. Happy birthday to Pam Damon, Leslie Naples, A1 Wansa, Ethel Becze, Julia McGrath, Greg and Mattie Damon, Danny Mauerman, Michelle Meehan and David Ryan Mauerman. Happy anniversary to Olga and A1 Wansa of New Port Richey, Fla., and Leslie and Rick Naples of Indianapolis. On Feb. 20, a Farsang Bál (Carnival Ball) was held at Venice Christian Hall, Venice, Fla. A WPA banner decorated the wall behind the podium. National Director Michael F. Tomcsak conducted a seminar on the benefits of belonging to our Association. More than 280 people attended. Olga and A1 Wansa and I welcomed the guests as they entered the hall and handed out party favors donated by the Home Office. At the conclusion of the seminar—which was well received—Mike presented a check to President Kalman Nagy, who is a Branch 590 member. Door prizes were also distributed. The event also included a delicious pork dinner and fánk sprinkled with powdered sugar for dessert. Branch 590 member Irene Franko reported she and the other cooks made more than 850 of the donuts. The evening concluded with dancing and the judging of guests' costumes. First prize went to a gentleman dressed as the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Our special thanks to Kalman and his staff for making us feel welcome. Our heartfelt thanks also go to the Home Office and Dianne Charles for their contributions which made our participation at the ball possible. Mike made a very good presentation on the different WPA plans available. As Maren Tomcsak would say: "Good job, grandpa!" Congratulations to Betty and A1 Vargo on the birth of their newest grandson, born last month. They now have two granddaughters and two grandsons. There is nothing as precious as a baby. Deadline for applications is May 14. All graduates out of high school need some help to get started on their college education. So, don't pass up this opportunity to help them. Your branch members at the February meeting approved the branch's annual donations to the prison in Huntingdon, Pa., and the Blair County Prison. Both donations have been sent out. The big celebration of St. Patrick's Day March 17 will soon be upon all of you who are Irish. May St. Patrick bless you and fill your hearts with joy on this big day for the Irish. We should all be thinking spring, for springtime arrives March 21. Even though our winter in Branch 800 territory was rather nice, it will still be a great joy to see things come to life in our yards and on the mountains. Easter comes very early this year, Sunday, April 4. So, at this time, we say happy Easter to all. There is so much to rejoice in and celebrate at Easter. The branch officers wish each and every one of you a truly blessed and peaceful Easter. Have you checked your life insurance policy lately to see if your beneficiary information is as you wish?
