Ward Branch 14 Reporter By the time you read this article, many Branch 14 members will have enjoyed a day at Cedar Point Amusement Park, sponsored by their branch. The next item on the Branch 14 summer activities agenda is a day trip to Mountaineer Racetrack and Gaming Resort in West Virginia on Monday, July 13. Reservations must be made three weeks prior to the trip by calling Carol Perkins, branch treasurer, at (440) 238- 6465. To wind up the summer Branch 14 will sponsor an outing on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad to the Stan Hywet Mansion on Sun­day, Sept. 13. Good luck in your future endeav­ors. Christopher William made his first Holy Communion on May 2. He is a loyal altar server at Holy Cross Church. His proud grandpa is Lou Almassy. We at Branch 18 are also very proud of all our young members. Happy birthday to all our sum­mer celebrants, especially the Rev. Barnabas Kiss, Betty Holguin, Julie Chesley, Joe Barany, Elsie Kantor, Emma Poliska, Gizella Ressler and Julius Turcsak. Emma and Mike Poliska are also celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary. Con­gratulations to you all, and I wish you many more. At this writing, we are still look­ing forward to the annual bowling tournament. But, very soon, we must start thinking golf. If you are interested in golfing, please call me and we will place you on a team at our annual golf tournament to be held in Hershey, Pa. Fifty Branch 18 members re­cently returned from our trip to Niagara Falls. Maybe we could have done without the flat tire on the bus, but then we had an un­scheduled tour. Very interesting! That was our first “ovemighter.” Maybe we’re ready for a two­­nighter. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Kathy Novak Branch 28 Reporter Happy Summer! uLi^e all the participants of the 199c bowling tournament had a wondei ul time. It’s s I hard to believe but the annual b anch picnic is just around the comer. All members are re­minded to attend the branch 28 summer picnic to be held Sunday, June 38, from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. at the Ft. Joseph pavillion of Our Lady of Hungary Church, 545 N. Belle Vista Ave., Youngstown. As usual, the meats, bread and beverages will be provided by our branch. All those attending are asked to bring a casserole or des­sert for the buffet table. Non-mem­bers are invited but asked for a do­nation of $5. For more information and to help plan the menu, call Mary at (330) 549-2935 or Kathy at (330) 746-7704. Our picnic is the traditional kick off for summer fun. The annual St. Stephen of Hungary Church picnic will be held Sunday, July 26, at the Youngstown American Hungarian Club, 2219 Donald Ave., Young­stown. Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. and food will be served beginning at 1:00 p.m. Music will be provided by the Zolka Brothers (also known as “After Five”) from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Youngstown American Hungarian Club will also be the setting for the annual “Magyar Nap” Hungarian Day on Sunday, Aug. 9. Watch for more details in next month’s Branch 28 news. Congratulations to Mickey Schauer who not only got a new job in the Cleveland area but also be­came a homeowner. We also applaud our 1998 graduates—there’s a whole new world waiting for each of them. Also, we send a “job well done” to Gloria Purton and Amy Toth for being selected as members of the National Honor Society at Fitch High School. Proud grandparents Lou and Marge Sabo informed us that Leah and Casey Sabo traveled to Seattle for the national gymnastics compe­­tition-and that luck traveled with them. Leah placed 12th and Casey 45th. Way to go, girls! We can’t forget'to say welcome to Jonah Szabó, the newest addition to Alan Szabo’s family. Happy birthday to all those cel­ebrating another year, especially Branch Vice President Frank Schauer. Happy anniversary to all those couples remembering their special day this month. Sincere get well wishes to Helen Kovach, Joe Vizi, Pauline Vizi and Mary Torok. Our sympathy goes out to all those experiencing the loss of a loved one recently, especially the Tollas-Novak families upon the passing of Mary Tollas. May she and all others rest in eternal peace. Safe travels to everyone vaca­tioning! Branch 51 Passaic, NJ Submitted by Ernest J. Mozer Sr. Branch 51 President We at Branch 51 wish to extend our heartiest congratulations to the Rev. Stephen N. Mustos, pastor of St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Passaic, who celebrated the 40th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood on April 26. Born in Veszprém, Hungary, Father Mustos entered the Order of the Pious Schools (Piarist Fathers) in 1949, made his simple religious vows in Hungary in 1950 and sol­emn vows in Rome in 1957. He was ordained a priest in Rome in 1958. He arrived in the U.S. in 1959 to serve as prefect of the Piarist Fa­thers’ boys’ home in Derby, N.Y., where he supervised and taught 35 to 45 Hungarian refugees. He taught science and math­ematics at Calasanctius Prep for Gifted Children from 1961 to 1969, then served as headmaster of De­von Prep School in Devon, Pa., until 1987 when he was assigned to St. Stephen parish in Trenton, N.J. During his Trenton assign­ment, he looked after the spiritual needs of Hungarians in the Phila­delphia, Washington and Baltimore areas. Father Mustos served as presi­dent of the American-Hungarian Catholic Priests Association from 1984 to 1992. He also served as a member of the Raskob Foundation Task Force and as a Hungarian clergy representative to the USCC Migration and Refugee Service. He was appointed pastor of St. Stephen parish in Passaic in 1990. Branch 129 Columbus, OH By Arpad Sibrik Branch 129 President Branch 129 held its branch meet­ing on April 15 at the VFW hall. The branch will send one women’s bowling team to Dayton for the WPA bowling tournament. Several other members will follow the team to cheer them on to victory. We are trying to find a place to hold the September branch picnic. If you know of a suitable location, please let us know. We will gladly consider any suggestions. We are sorry to report that Acy Blair passed away. He was a mem­ber of our branch. Our condolences go to his wife Helen and to his fam­ily. David George moved to Grove City, Ohio, to be closer to his chil­dren and grandchildren. He has a nice condominium and is getting used to his new way of life. My daughter-in-law, Mary Sibrik, underwent back surgery again. We hope this will help alle­viate her back pain. Charlie Boso’s health is not showing much improvement. It is possible he will need surgery on his leg. On May 15,1 attended a seven­­hour insurance seminar. The State of Ohio requires licensed sales rep­resentatives to complete 30 hours of training every two years in or­der to renew their licenses. Our next branch meeting will be on June 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the VFW hall, 1591 Lockboume Road, Co­lumbus. Branch 296 Springdale, PA By Anna Marie Pochan Branch 296 Secretary-Treasurer Members of Branch 296 have planned their annual bacon roast for Sunday, June 14, at 4:00 p.m. at the Hungarian Reformed Church, 130 Walters Lane, Springdale. Mem­bers and guests are invited to attend. Plan on coming and enjoying this old Hungarian tradition. Belated birthday wishes to George Charles Sr. who celebrated his birthday in May. Branch 590 Cape Coral, FL By Joan Mauerman Branch 590 Reporter Branch President Mike Tomcsak conducted a memorial service in honor of all fallen comrades dur­ing our May branch meeting. There was a display of pictures from Na­tional Cemeteries and “Taps” was played. Winners of our branch’s schol­arship raffle were Pete Charles, Elmer Toth and Margaret Hamari. A nice donation was made to the scholarship fund in memory of de­ceased members of Branch 590. Rose Darab was the winner of the monthly half-and-half raffle. Ehtel Becze won the Mother’s Day plant. Anthony Di Guilio won the first door prize with Elizabeth Posey and Irene Slauterbeck win­ning the second and third prizes.
