Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Kathy Novak Branch 28 Reporter Happy 1998! Hoping everyone had a blessed and joyous Christmas season. May the love and peace of this wonderful season have filled our hearts and homes. With the help of the Home Office, a very successful Christmas party was held. It attracted one of the largest crowds we’ve had at our party in several years. We thank the WPA for all the items we distributed with the gifts we purchased for the children’s packages. We also thank the members who donated items to help complete our buffet table. The festivities began with The Aut Mori Clowns entertaining those in attendance as well as leading us in singing. After lunch, separate raffles were held for the children and adults. Ten lucky children won McDonald’s coupon books and toyfilled stockings, while eight adults won a variety of Christmas plants and decorations. The 50/50 winner was Eugene Sakasits. With a chorus of “Jingle Bells,” Santa (John Tollas Sr.) arrived to visit with the children. The traditional group picture was taken by branch photographer Frank Schauer. Santa with his helper then called the children up individually to receive their gifts. Gift items left after the party were given to Tod’s Children’s Hospital. Following the party, a brief meeting to elect the 1998 officers was held. Those elected were: Steve Novak, president; Frank Schauer, vice president; Kathy Novak, secretary/treasurer; and Mary Schauer and Eugene Sakasits, auditors. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, Branch 28 gave aid to four families with the additional backing of the Home Office. A big thank you to all the members who made our bingo card party on Nov. 9 a very successful event. The lucky raffle winners were Elizabeth Peyko (portable television), Alan Szabó ($50) and Aggie Janossy ($25). It was so nice to have such a good response to our fund raiser/social. A special donation was made to the WPA scholarship fund from the proceeds. The next monthly meeting is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 19, at Boardman Country Kitchen Restaurant, at 7:00 p.m. With all the holiday celebrating, let’s not forget to send special greetings to all those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries this month. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those having experienced the loss of a family member. The smiles on all these faces attest to the good time had by everyone at the Branch 18 family Christmas party. (Photo by Tom House) The members of Branch 18’s “Angel Network ” worked hard to make the branch 's Christmas party a success. (Photo by Tom House) hearty “Ho! Ho! Ho!” All eagerly responded “yes” when Santa asked if they had been good little girls and boys during the past year. As each child sat on Santa’s lap, they were asked what they would like for Christmas. Santa, with the help of President Barillo, gave each child a gift. All children also received coloring books, crayons, pencils and pens. The adults received pens, key chains, change holders and lovely 1998 WPA calendars. The adults were asked to purchase policies for their families. After Santa left, all were invited to stay for refreshments and enjoy each other’s company. We thank the Home Office for its assistance in making this party a success. We wish all a very happy and healthy new year. Branch 132 South Bend, IN By Frank J. Wukovits, Jr. National Director I am extremely proud of the efforts of the branch officers. This year we were able to deliver seven food baskets with food gift certificates to those in need. We also delivered seven fruit baskets to cheer up members and others. It lets them know Branch 132 cares. When I delivered one fruit basket to a resident of a nursing home, I discovered that the residents like to have anyone visit them-even an insurance man. Our sincere thanks to the people at Key Bank for allowing us to use their boardroom for the annual children’s Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 13. Thanks to all the Young members of Branch 51 Passaic, N.J., gather around the Christmas tree during the branch ’s recent Christmas party. Many young (and a few not-so-young) members of Branch 132 South Bend, Ind., surround Santa Claus at the branch 's annual Christmas party. help we had, it ended up being a great afternoon for all the kids, parents and grandparents who came. A truly star performance by magician Bill Harvey and his wife Rita highlighed the afternoon. We appreciate that they took the time and effort to produce an exceptional act at the children’s level and got them involved. Santa and Mrs. Claus talked with the children and passed out gifts. Everyone who wanted a personal picture with Santa got one, too. We had pizza (20 extra large to be exact), cookies, candy and pop for everyone. There were door prizes for the youngsters as well as for the parents. Everyone left happy and full. My thanks to the officers and volunteers Kenneth and Karen Kochanowski, Harry and Karen Thompson and my son Frankie. On behalf of the branch officers, our best wishes to you for good health in 1998. May God bless you and your family. Continued on Page 5 Insurance inquiries can be directed to Gabe Nameth at (330) 792-8145 or Alan Szabó at (330) 797-5057. Branch 51 Passaic, NJ By Arthur Barillo Branch 51 President On Dec. 7 branch 51 held its annual election of officers and its family Christmas party at the American Hungarian Citizens Club in Garfield, N.J. Those elected to serve our branch in 1998 were: Arthur Barillo, president; Christine Mozer, vice president; Richard A. Mozer, treasurer; Ernest J. Mozer Sr., secretary; and Joseph Baumgartner and Frank Zimmerman, auditors. President Barillo thanked the members for all their faithful assistance during the past year and for making a rough task a lot easier. Entertainment for the party was supplied by magician Jeff Michaels who held the children spellbound with his unbelievable tricks. The loud shouts of the children, their parents and other guests filled the room during the entire show. Afterwards, Margaret Einholz, Rita Mozer, Jamie Rubin, Katie Mozer, Marissa Kaminski and Andrea Blundho led all those present in singing the traditional Christmas songs from the booklets supplied by the Home Office. This brought out the true Christmas spirit in all present. As everyone sang “Jingle Bells,” Santa Claus (Tom Baldyga) made his grand entrance, ringing his bell all the while. The younger children stared in wonder as he let out a Branch 249 Dayton, OH By Anne Marie Schmidt Branch 249 Reporter We hope everyone had a blessed Christmas season and will enjoy a new year filled with good health and happiness. Once again we had a great time at our annual branch Christmas party, socializing with our members and bowlers. Michele La Flame prepared the traditional meal of sloppy joes, sausage, paprika* potatoes, relishes and cheese. It was mighty tasty as usual! Thank you to the bowlers for their contribution of assorted Christmas cookies Entertainment was provided this year by Mike Hemmelgam, comedian, juggler, magician and ventriloquist. I’m not sure who was funnier, Mike or our youngest
