Ward branch 14 Reporter The first Branch 14 meeting of the new year was held at Friday’s Restaurant in Strongsville Jan. 8. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal and wonderful fellowship. Any Branch 14 members who would like to attend the William Penn’s Annual Bowling Tourna­ment in Detroit May 23 to 25 should contact the Ward Agency at 838-1200. At the next meeting, we will discuss possible future branch activities, such as outings to Geauga Lake, Sea World and Lake Erie cruises. All Branch 14 members are welcome to attend the next meeting to help plan the activities agenda for 1997. The meeting will be held Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Grand Bay Clubhouse, 7001 W. Cross Creek Trail, Brecksville. Branch 16 Perth Amboy, NJ By Melissa Mirkovich Branch 16 Reporter * 16 On Dec. 14 Branch 16 held its annual Christmas party. The day started with hot dogs and chips. Following lunch, the children were entertained by Johnny the Clown, who performed magic and made balloon figures for everyone. Branch President and National Director George Mirkovich then welcomed everyone and intro­duced Chairman of the Board Michael Hrabar who brought greetings from the Home Office. Next came a sing-along led by Steve Mészáros with a surprise guest popping in during the sing­ing of "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.” The day ended with a visit from Santa and gifts and treats for all. The party was a success with a turnout of 40 children and their families. The members of Branch 16 thank everyone who helped to make it such an exciting and eventful day. We look forward to another great party this year. Before the party Branch 16 elected its officers for 1997. Melissa Mirko­vich was named branch reporter. Branch 18 Lincoln Park, MI By Barbara A. House National Director Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope everyone has a special sweetie to celebrate with. We at Branch 18 are busily preparing to welcome you to the upcoming Annual Bowling Tournament and Scholarship Days. I hope you are working on getting your teams together. We have many wonderful surprises planned for you. Plan on attend­ing as many of the functions as you can. We welcome new member Jes­sica Elizabeth Morsfield. Jessica is the daughter of David and Julianne Morsfield and the grand­daughter of Lou and Elizabeth Deregi. Happy birthday wishes to Emma Toth, National Director Mike Kara (along with continued get well wishes), and National Vice President-Treasurer Diane Torma. Special get well wishes to Betty Holguin. Keep up the good work. Please remember in your pray­ers the families of Joseph Sparr, Elizabeth Vinick, Gizella Szabó, Lajos Molnár, Emma Balog, Jim­my Shaw, Alexander Nestor and Michael Nagy. This is a sing-along evening, along with dinner. That evening everyone can be a star. On March 16, Holy Cross Hungarian R.C. Church is having its Spring Card Party. Our next two membership meetings will be held on Feb. 14 and March 14 at the Hungarian American Culture Center, 26257 Goddard Road, Taylor. Branch 19 New Brunswick, NJ By Krisztina Sárközi Branch 19 Reporter Branch 19 held its annual Christ­mas party Dec. 8 at the Bayard Street Presbyterian Church Hall. Members and their families were welcomed by Branch President Barbara Hegedűs. Entertainment was provided by Sassy the Clown who held the children spellbound with games, singing and dancing. She also painted the children’s faces and made many different balloon figures. Santa, too, engaged the chil­dren with his merry ways and distributed candy and gifts from the Home Office. Our thanks to Branch Secre­tary Evelyn Bodnar who brought all the food and refreshments. A short meeting was held be­fore the party during which the following were elected as officers for our branch: Barbara Hegedűs, president; John Hegedűs, vice president; Evelyn Bodnar, secre­tary; Ruth Vasvary, treasurer; and Ernest Arvay, Albert Suldo and Krisztina Sárközi, auditors. Former branch officer Irene Evans installed the officers. Happy new year to one and all. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Kathy Novak Branch 28 Reporter Happy Valentine’s Day! We hope all our readers are enduring the forces of Mother Nature’s unpredictable winter weather. Our thanks go to branch photographer Frank Schauer for capturing the smiling faces at our 1996 Christmas party. Best of luck to Diane Torma, our new national vice president­­treasurer. Our branch held its latest meet­ing on Jan. 20 at Luciano’s Res­taurant. Plans were made for the 1997 calendar of events. The new officers thanked the mem­bership for the support and con­fidence given them in their new positions. A big thank you goes to all the outgoing officers for all the dedication and extra effort they gave for the branch’s con­tinued success. Several fund raisers are in the works, so watch for more information in up­coming reports. Remember: our branch meet­ings are held the third Monday of the month at various restaurants. Locations are announced at our meetings and advertised in church bulletins and newspapers. Congratulations to all those celebrating birthdays or anniver­saries. Get well wishes to all those under the weather, especially Mary Torok. Our apologies for the few mis­prints in the last article. Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA Lt. Cpl. Stephanie W. Paulovitch, a member of Branch 34, recently graduated from boot camp at Parris Island, S.C. Her graduation ceremony was abbreviated and abrupt due to the approach of hurricane Fran. A Marine Corps reservist and William Penn scholarship recipi­ent, Stephanie returned to her studies at the Community Col­lege of Allegheny County, Boyce Campus. She plans to transfer to the University of Pittsburgh to complete her studies in elemen­tary education. Stephanie graduated from Plum Senior High School in June 1996. Two days after commence­ment, she arrived on Parris Island, spending the entire summer learn­ing and training to become a Marine. This summer, Stephanie will attend military police school at Fort McClellan, Ala., to com­plete her training. She and her brother James, also a member of Branch 34, were dancers with the Magyar Folk Dancers of McKeesport, Pa. She is the daughter of Stephen and Linda Paulovitch of Plum Borough, Pa., who are members of Branch 296 Springdale, Pa.
