Following a delicious buffet dinner in the beautiful clubhouse overlooking the track, everyone can try their hand at lady luck by placing their bets on their favorite trotters. For more information and reser­vations, call the Ward Agency at 838-1200 by Oct. 28. Congratulations to Branch 14 President Karen Congeni and her husband Mike on the birth of their beautiful son, Michael, born Sept. 4. Michael has already attended his first William Penn Branch 14 meeting where he be­came a member. Congratulations also to Branch 14 members Julius and Rose Laslo who will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary Oct. 12. They have taken many wonderful trips around the world, including a William Penn sponsored cruise of the Western Caribbean in 1990. The Laslos reside in Mentor, Ohio, with their son, Paul. Branch 14 will hold its annual family Christmas party on Satur­day, Dec. 14, at the West Side Hungarian Reformed Church. The party will feature a full break­fast and a visit from Santa Claus. More information about the par­ty will appear in next month’s report. The next Branch 14 meeting will be held Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Grand Bay Clubhouse, 7001 West Cross Creek Trail, Brecksville, at 7:30 p.m. Branch 18 Lincoln Park, MI By Barbara A. House National Director Happy fall season to everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful summer. It’s time to put the golf clubs away and think bowling. We here at Branch 18 are already beginning work on the May 1997 tournament. We are so pleased that we will be the host branch. Hope to see many of you then. On Sunday, Sept. 15, Holy Cross Hungarian R. C. Church celebrated its feast day. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who made it such a success. Thanks also to Fathers Barnabas and Angelus for work­ing so hard to keep our church together. Mark your calendar for these upcoming events: the Hungarian American Culture Center is hav­ing their annual Szüreti Bál (Grape Harvest Dance) on Satur­day, Oct. 12; and on Oct. 13, Holy Cross Church is having their annual card party. It sure is beautiful here in Mich­igan. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Kathy Novak Branch 28 Reporter Mark your calendars for Sunday, Nov. 3. On that date the Youngs­­town Hungarian community will remember and celebrate three special anniversaries: the 1,100th anniversary of the settlement of the Hungarian people in their own nation; the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Youngstown American Hungar­ian Federation; and the 40th anni­versary of the Freedom Fighters Revolution of 1956. The day’s events will begin at 2:00 p.m. with a special Mass at the monastery at 517 S. Belle Vista Ave. Later in the afternoon, a testimonial dinner and program will be held at the Moonraker Restaurant on Tiffany Boulevard in Boardman, Ohio. A cash bar will open at 5:30 p.m. with din­ner to be served at 6:00 p.m. Cost of the dinner is $15 per person. Entree selections are stuffed pork chops or stuffed chicken breast. Reservation are required. Call Kathy Novak at (330) 746-7704. The program will include Mrs. Joseph Gyorek of Washington, D.C.; Prof. László Domonkos of Youngstown State University; State Rep. Michael Verich of the 66th District of Ohio; and the Regösök dance group of Cleve­land. The dinner committee is confident this will be a most enjoyable event. At this summer’s National Convention of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Branch 28 member Joe Taylor received a 50-year membership pin and a special plaque honoring him as one of the organization’s charter members. We all thank Joe for serving our country so proudly and send him our warmest con­gratulations. Best wishes to Michael and Pauline Tomcsak from all your friends and relatives in Youngs­town on the arrival of your spe­cial little angel. We know the whole family—Grandpa Mike, Joan, Aunt Leslie, Uncle Rick and all the "great” aunts and uncles—are very happy about this latest family addition. We all know Grandma Mary would have been thrilled. Best wishes to all those cele­brating birthdays or anniversa­ries this month. Mozer, Sr. Branch 51 Coordinator At a recent meeting of our branch plans were finalized for our up­coming election of officers for 1997 and our family Christmas Welcome To Our Fraternal Family party. Both events will be held on Sunday, Dec. 1, at the American Hungarian Club, 21 New Schley St., Garfield, N.J. The election of branch officers will be held at 1:00 p.m., and our family Christ­mas party will begin at 2:00 p.m. sharp. Please note that both af­fairs will be held one hour earlier than in past years. We are planning a great party we hope everyone will enjoy. There will be wonderful enter­tainment, a visit from Santa Claus and refreshments. So, children, be sure to bring your parents, brothers and sis­ters.
