We at Branch 14 are doing our best to provide our members with fun things to do this summer. We recently held our annual outing to Geuaga Lake, and now we are preparing for our next excursion. Branch 14 will sponsor a Lake Erie cruise to Put-in-Bay and Kelley’s Island July 31. The outing includes a hot lunch buffet. The boat departs from Sandusky at 9:30 a.m. The regular prices of $32.50 for adults, $29.95 for senior citizens and $16.50 for children will be discounted one half for Branch 14 members. Branch 18 Lincoln Park, MI By Barbara A. House National Director We won! We have participated in the Annual Bowling Tournament for many years and always have had a wonderful time. But, when you finally win, it’s terrific. Many thanks to my team members Julie Chesley, Betsy Griffith, Krisztina Kortvesi (in her first tournament) and Carol Truesdell. I always knew that the Five Friends ladies team was a winning combination. Thank you also to the Branch 34 men’s team. We couldn’t do it without you. Congratulations also to the Home Office, Lou Fodor, Elmer Toth, Rick Toth, and Bob and Steve Ivancso for running such a smooth tournament. Everything, including the hotel, banquet and accommodations, was perfect. Thank you also to all for your generosity to the scholarship fund. Now, we can turn your attention to golf. Much sympathy to Helen Horvath on the death of her husband Les. 1 have many wonderful memories of Les. Our sincere sympathy also goes to Louis and Elizabeth Deregi on the death of their daughter Gloria. We were also saddened by the death of Mary Csanyi, mother of Dorothy Csanyi. Please remember these wonderful people in your thoughts and prayers. Remember also the many members who are ill: Bill Kocsis, Betty Holguin, Ernie Molnár and National Director Mike Kara. Now that the weather has finally gotten better, I hope you will also. Get well soon. Happy birthday wishes to Julia La Pointe. Julia was the surprise guest of honor at a party given by <. her daughter Linda. She was really tickled. Happy birthday also to Magda Uri and John Yuhasz. May you have many more. Rose Wickers and Rose Krumm have joined the happy retirees club. I know both these girls and I know they will never be idle. Happy retirement to you both; you certainly deserve some time for what you like to do. Congratulations to newlyweds Andy and Valerie McNelis. They were wed on June 29. Andy is the son of Andy and Marguerite McNelis. Andy Sr. is a national director with the William Penn. Happy anniversary to my special people Betty and Paul Johnson. I love you. With all the fireworks and celebrations taking place, we hope all those having their special day this month, whether birthday or anniversary, will have a great day! So nice to learn that the ladies representing Youngstown at the bowling tournament placed so well. Great job! Looking just around the corner, you’ll find our annual branch picnic. Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA By Andy McNelis National Director Summer is here and the annual golf tournament is just around the corner, so sharpen up your putting skills. We are looking forward to a great weekend of fun and fraternalism. On Sunday, June 2, the members of Branch 34 held a luncheon to honor our 50-year members. Thirty members attended the luncheon to celebrate with our senior honorees. Acting National President and National Vice President-Treasurer Frances A. Furedy congratulated the 50- year members and thanked them for their continued faith and confidence in the Association. She then distributed 50-year pins and certificates to each honoree. The officers and branch members would like to send a special word of thanks to the Home Office and Board of Directors for their help in making this such a wonderful event. Also, thank you, Fran, for coming and sharing the day with us and our honorees. Molnár recently graduated from Gateway High School as valedictorian and has been accepted to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Honors College. Branch 51 Passaic, NJ By Arthur Barillo Branch 51 President On behalf of Branch 51, its officers and members, we congratulate George S. Toth, the new acting secretary of the Association. Recently, Branch Treasurer Richard A. Mozer received his master of business administration degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Hackensack, N.J. Congratulations, Rich. Among the honored guests at the commencement ceremonies was New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman, who received a doctor of laws degree. (Pete) Charles Jr. on his election as president and Rick Toth on his appointment as acting secretary. Lots of good luck in the future. We are sad to report that Margaret George—longtime member of Branch 129, mother of Branch President Margie Boso, and wife of David George—passed away. Our condolences go out to her family. The ladies bowling team had a good time in Pittsburgh at the bowling tournament, but did not win any prizes. Better luck next year! At our last branch meeting we set the date for the branch picnic. The picnic will be held Sept. 22, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., at the Swan Club (the same place we have had the picnic for the last three years). The branch will provide the meat, coffee, tea and table service. Everyone must bring their own beer or pop. Plus, we ask everyone to also bring a covered dish or pastry. This is your invitation to the picnic. Charles Jr. This is a richly deserved honor, and we at Branch 352 wish to extend our best wishes to you, your family and the Association. We’re proud of you! Branch member Robert Catlos graduated from Duquesne University with a bachelor’s degree in health science. He will continue his studies at Duquesne towards attaining a master’s degree in occupational therapy. Also studying at Duquesne is John Catlos. He is working towards two degrees, a bachelor’s in business and a master’s in health management systems. The brothers are the sons of Steve and Marjorie Catlos of Jefferson Borough. We wish you the best in all of your future plans. Congratulations to Steve Charles. He was named to the Chartiers Valley Middle School Honor Roll and received the President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. At an awards program on June 10, he received his certificate and a letter from President Clinton. We’re proud of you. Way to go, Steve! To our recent college and high school graduates, we wish the very best that life holds for you. Make every day an adventure and discover the very best in yourself.
