Branch 352 member Maggie Montanaro, a member of the flag ensemble Shazamm!, poses in her "Pocahontas" costume. Széchenyi lánchíd, Budapest’s famous "Chain Bridge," is just one of many historic landmarks you will see when you travel to Hungary with the WPA. Association issues last call for June tour to Hungary Branch 352 Coraopolis, PA Best wishes to Branch 352 member Maggie Montanaro, a member of the award-winning flag ensemble, Shazamm! The group comprises girls ages 10 to 14 and performs and competes in the Junior Prop Line Division of the Mid-East Performance Association. Maggie, 13, is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. R. D. Montanaro and the granddaughter of National Auditing Committee Chairman Charlie and Ruth Furedy. Shazamm! practices two to four hours per week and is currently performing a routine to the song "Colors of the Wind” from the Disney movie, "Pocahontas.” The girls use props, such as dream catchers, flags and streamers, to tell the story of a young Indian girl whose love is nature. The costumes, backdrops and props all have an Indian motif. The group was started by Paula Brown, Sharon Mark and Dee Dee Brust. It has won four firstplace awards at various competitions. The group helps build selfesteem and gives its members a chance to perform in front of audiences, compete, meet new people and, most of all, have a great time. Branch 590 Cape Coral, FL By Joan Mauerman Branch 590 Treasurer Branch 590 members met Holy Saturday at Egret Hall in Cape Coral. The hall was decorated with spring flowers and bunnies. The aroma of fresh kolbász filled the hall. The kolbász was made by Olga and A1 Wansa, Joan Mauerman and Mike Tomcsak. Proceeds from the sale of the kolbász will benefit the Association’s scholarship fund. During the meeting, plans were finalized for our branch picnic to be held Oct. 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Del Prado Beach Park, Cape Coral. There will be plenty of good food and a bacon fry. Please plan to attend this fun-filled day. Thanks to our bakers, Bill Becze, Irene Toth and Vi Timmer Shintski. Bingo was played, and Irene Redden won the cover-all game. She received a rabbit planter filled with miniature sunflowers. Plans were also made for our branch to attend the Palm Dinner Theater in December. More details on this event will be announced later. Happy 65th wedding anniversary to Kaye and Joe Bodick. They reside in Punta Gorda, Fla., during the winter and in Cheswick, Pa., in the summer. Also, happy 56th wedding anniversary to Olga and A1 Wansa of Port Richey, Fla., formerly of Michigan. Both couples are beautiful, loving people. I’m proud to call them my friends. Get well wishes go out to Steve Sándor. You will be surely missed at the bowling tournament. Happy birthday to Jennie, Rick, Joey and Jodi Dues. The three-day Csendőr Convention, held recently at the Hungarian Club in Venice, Fla., was a huge success. World Commander Gabor Kiss of Apopka, Fla., was in charge. A reminder: Hungarian dinners are served the first Sunday of each month at the Magyar Presbyterian Church in Lakeland, Fla., and the second Sunday of each month at the Hungarian Club in Plant City, Fla. Good luck to all bowlers. I will riot be at the tournament; 1 will be in Hewitt, Texas, visiting my beautiful granddaughters, Jamie and Joanie. Branch 800 Altoona, PA By Vincent Frank Branch 800 President Happy Mother’s Day on May 12 to all you mothers out there. May all of you be showered with many blessings as you raise your families. It is only fitting that a day is set aside each year to honor you wonderful mothers. At our April meeting a get well card was signed by all those in attendance for Branch Auditor Ed Smith. A speedy recovery is our wish for you, Ed. May all branch members who are on the sick list be on the road to recovery and get back to full health quickly. She was a former member here in Blair County and is now a member of Branch 352 living in Coraopolis. As we approach the May 7 branch meeting, we wish to inform all members that this will be the last meeting until September. Our branch will be in recess during the months of June, July and August.
