March 1995, William Penn Life, Page 3 Branch News Branch 8 Johnstown, PA By Sándor J. Yuhas Branch 8 Coordinator On Sunday, Dec. 11, Branch 8 held its election of officers for 1995. Those elected to serve our branch were: Sándor Yuhas, president; Mary Groshans, vice president; Donna Yuhas, secretarytreasurer; Viola Yuhas, auditor; and Vera Petruska, auditor. After the election and our monthly meeting, our family Christmas party was held at the United Church of Christ, Cambria City, Johnstown. As each family arrived, the children were greeted by Santa Claus (Kerry Rovan) who gave each child coloring books, crayons and other gifts. After a beautiful buffet was enjoyed by all, Santa led everyone in singing Christmas carols, then read "The Night Before Christmas” as all sat in front of a beautiful Christmas tree. Everyone had a wonderful time. May all of you have a happy new year! Branch 15 Chicago, IL By Eva Laczina Branch 15 Secretary On Dec. 19 our branch held its annual Christmas party. As usual, this event was a great success as many people came to celebrate with us. We were able to see new faces as well, which is always a pleasure. This year’s Christmas party took place in the same fashion as previous parties. After Mass, everyone descended to our beautiful church hall and began to settle in. As we entered the hall, the enticing aroma of freshly cooked sausages filled our senses. Once we were all seated, we enjoyed a wonderful performance by our Hungarian Scout group, who presented the story of Jesus’ birth. They really outdid themselves this year. After the show, we began to hear our stomachs speak to us. Not to worry; there was plenty of sausage and delicious biscuits for everyone to enjoy. For dessert, there was a wonderful variety of delicious pastries to choose from, all of which were prepared by the many women who attend the church. After our meal, we were all anxious to see the arrival of St. Nicholas. Sure enough, he came. The children were very excited to see him, and there was no delay as he distributed his gifts to them. As the children tore through their gifts, there was plenty of time for the adults to reminisce about past Christmas parties and other shared experiences. It was a joy to see everyone come together in this way. Members share a moment with Santa Claus at the annual family Christmas party hosted by the branch this past holiday season. Clowns and a visit from Santa brightened the spirits of all those who attended Branch 28's family Christmas parity. (Photo by Frank Schauer) We would like to thank all of those people who put in their hard work and effort in making this Christmas party a success. We would like to wish everyone from our branch, and all those at the Home Office in Pittsburgh, a wonderful, happy and healthy new year. Branch 18 Lincoln Park, MI By Barbara A. It is with a heavy heart and much sorrow that I inform our William Penn family of the passing of one of our branch auditors, Mrs. Katherine (Kay) Novak, my beloved mother and dear wife of Branch Vice President Steve Novak.
