Fodor National Director The Warren Township Park in Tiltonsville, Ohio, was the setting Aug. 21 for the annual picnic sponsored by the Ohio Valley Hungarian American Cultural Society. Because of threatening weather, only 100 or so members showed up, many of whom are also William Penn members. We also counted among those attending a girl from Hungary. She certainly enjoyed herself. Everyone attending came with a covered dish, so there was quite a variety of food on the buffet table. At about 4:00 p.m. a band from Akron, Ohio, appropriately called "The Hungarians,” started off with a csárdás and had most of the people dancing. (Even I danced a slow piece with my wife.) The rain held off until 4:30 p.m., just when we started the bacon fry. But nobody seemed to mind; they all had a good time. Many people had a hand in making the picnic happen. We thank Mary and Joe Tocash, Dan and Margaret Laslo, Jim and Darla Kalman, Alex and Olga Toth, and others who lent a hand wherever it was needed. Now, we are looking forward to the Harvest Dance to be held Oct. 22 from 7:00 p.m. to midnight at Someplace Special in Martins Ferry. Branch 14 Cleveland, OH By Dawn D. Ward Branch 14 President All members of Branch 14 are invited to attend "A Night at the Races” Oct. 15 at Northfield Park. This will be the second outing to Northfield Park this year. The members who attended this spring said the buffet dinner was delicious, and everyone enjoyed playing the horses. For more information, please call Dawn Ward at 838-1200 by Oct. 10. Also back by popular demand is another outing on "Lolly the Trolley” on Sunday, Dec. 4. The Branch 14 members who rode Lolly last December thoroughly enjoyed viewing Cleveland’s beautiful display of Christmas lights and a delicious dinner in the city’s famous "flats.” For reservations and further details, call Dawn Ward by Nov. 2. Pat tells me that he has been a member since the 1940’s. He lives in Eldorado and, years ago, was a very active player in the society’s pinochle league. Pat has been a barber since 1926 and still works regular hours to serve the people of his community. He’s been in the same shop for 48 years. We had a nice talk, reminiscing on days gone by.
