August 1994, William Penn Life, Page 7 Chapel honors Hungarians Continued from Page 1 princes, founders and defenders of 1,000 years of Hungarian history. The lower level of the chapel houses a crypt which serves as a burial place for Hungarians who died outside of the native country. Dozens of crypts and urns brought from Europe, Canada, South America and across the United States have been placed there. Among those who have been laid to rest in the crypt are Hungarian leaders such as Gen. and Mrs. Lajos Veress de Dalnok and László Sirchich as well as Ilona Massey Dawson who was a famous Hollywood movie star in the 1940’s. In the chapel’s graveyard, symbolic gravesites are displayed of executed leaders of the Hungarian uprising. The symbolic sites include graves for Premier Imre Nagy, Defense Minister Pal Maleter, the Kid of Pest, and the executed political prisoner. Next to the gravesites stands a memorial erected to honor those Hungarian emigrants who fought and died in the American Revolutionary War, the U.S. Civil War and other conflicts in the defense of the United States. A wooden bell tower built in the Transylvanian tradition is the center piece of a picnic area at the park. Written in Hungarian above the door to the picnic area is the phrase: "Pass Our Threshold With Peace. ’ ’ Written on the other side is: "Be Our Guests Again.” For more information about the chapel or to arrange a visit, write to: Hungarian Freedom Fighters Federation, Alba Regia Chapel, P.O.
