January 1994, William Penn Life, Page 7 In Memóriám FRANK BALOGH CHICAGO — It is with great sorrow that we report the death of one of Branch 15 Chicago’s and William Penn’s most noble and cherished individuals, Frank Balogh, who passed away Nov. 26,1993, leaving behind his wife Mathilda and his son Frank Jr. (and his family). Mr. Balogh was born on Nov. 3, 1903, in Csajta, Austria. He came to the United States in 1924 at the age of 21 and became a U.S. citizen on Sept. 26, 1929. Like most immigrants he struggled to adapt to a new environment in a new country and to learn the English language. However, Mr. Balogh could never and would never forget where his heart belonged, to his homeland and his Hungarian culture. Because of this he helped to found St. Stephen King of Hungary church which still exists today and is still a very healthy gathering place for Hungarians both old and young. He took a very active role in building the church’s congregation, never letting members forget that even though they were in a different country, that in their hearts they are and should always be Hungarian. It was with this attitude and outlook that he later helped those who came to the United States from Hungary find employment and housing. Many times his own home would be a person’s temporary haven until other arrangements could be made. One day he found out about an organization called the Verhovay Aid Association which was a predominantly Hungarian fraternal insurance society. Without hesitation he became involved in what is now known as the William Penn Association. He served the Association’s Chicago members for many years and was one of the organizers of Branch 15 in 1953, becoming its first corresponding secretary. He would later serve as branch president for many years, retiring from office in 1988. Upon leaving office he was designated as president emeritus of Branch 15. Mr. Balogh represented the members of the Chicago area as a delegate to eight General Conventions. He served the Association for nearly 60 years, and it is generally agreed that Branch 15 would not be what it is today were it not for him. The Chicago Hungarian community will truly miss such a noble man. Our sincere thought of sympathy and many prayers go out to Mr. Balogh’s wife, son and family. May he rest in peace. By Arpad Laczina Branch 15 Coordinator DARLENE A. POZYWAK CLEVELAND — The members of Branch 14 Cleveland were saddened by the recent death of fellow member Darlene A. Pozywak. Mrs. Pozywak, 50, died at EMH Regional Medical Center after suffering a brain aneurysm. Born in Lorain, Ohio, Mrs. Pozywak later moved to Sheffield Township. She graduated from Clearview High School in 1961 and attended Kent State University for a year. In 1966, she moved to Elyria. She was deputy auditor of Lorain County, working in the special assessments division. She was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church and the church’s Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, canning and collecting dolls. She is survived by her husband Richard; a son, Richard S.; and her parents, John P. and Vilma Smith of Lorain. May she rest in peace. We ask our felloui members Co pray for the eternal rest of Mr. Balogh, Mrs. Pozywak and all our recently departed members listed below: NOVEMBER 1993 0001 BRIDGEPORT, CT Marguerite B.
