Santa Claus (Donna Yuhas) greeted each member at the door as they arrived with a gift from the William Penn including a song book, crayons, pens, calendars and coloring books. The new officers are: Mary Groshans, president; Sándor Yuhas, treasurer; Donna Yuhas, secretary; and Elaine Engle and Vera Petruska, auditors. Our sincere sympathy and condolences go to Donna Yuhas whose father, Albert Stiles, was killed in a house fire Nov. 21, and to all those who lost a loved one recently. Kapinus Branch 34 Coordinator Participation by members of our branch contributed to the success of St. Stephen’s Winter Festival held Feb. 11 and 12. A colorful Hungarian theme was presented, by those in attendance. Among the specialties served were székely goulash, homemade noodles and, naturally, a superb variety of pastries prepared by our women. Congratulations to Andrew V amos who was the lucky winner of the $700 Giant Eagle certificate drawing. Tickets for a 50/50 raffle will be available at the next branch meeting on the second Sunday of the month at noon. The raffle drawing will be held June 11. We are counting on our members to support this endeavor and help sell the winning ticket. Branch 44 Akron, OH By Elizabeth K. Darago Branch 44 President Four families in the Akron-Barberton area enjoyed bountiful holiday baskets prepared by our branch. All recipients were senior citizens with siblings or grandchildren living with them. If a recipient was on a salt-restricted diet, we enclosed low-salt and no-salt items; if diabetic, low-sugar and sugarless items. Every basket also contained personal care items as well as paper products and holiday eating utensils for a festive table. The Salvation Army provided all names of recipients and thanked the William Penn for its continued support. A selection of food products remained after the baskets were filled. These items were delivered to the Haven of Rest Mission in Akron. Haven of Rest houses and feeds the poorest of the poor in the area. The William Penn donation was warmly appreciated, as recent weather has been extremely cold and snowy. Thank you to everyone who remembered my husband, Tom, with cards and call when he had surgery in January. He is doing much better, and I’m sure it’s because of all the cards he received. Thank you. Now, I hope everyone stays healthy. Thanks to our members and the Home Office for enabling us to provide food and necessities. The trip to Las Vegas is set. Members are signed up and tickets are being purchased. This is your last chance. If you want to go on our trip, scheduled for the last week in April and the first week in May, call (216) 753- 5270 or (216) 673-3347. We’re on a roll. Think spring! My, but our branch will miss him for he was such a truly active member. He did everything that was asked of him and did even more on his own for the good of the branch. Mr. Stoner really loved the William Penn Association and all the activities that went with it. He died at the Mercy Regional Health Center in Altoona on Jan. 20, 1994. Services were held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Altoona. Our sympathy goes to his daughter Jamie and his grandchildren. May his soul rest in peace. At our February meeting it was decided that the branch would again present its annual donation to the Huntingdon Correctional Institution and Blair County Prison for the purpose of meeting the spiritual needs of inmates. The May meeting will consist of a recognition night for our 50- year members. Members will be notified by mail. Last year’s recognition night was a great success, and we are looking forward to this year’s event. Why not share your news with other members of our branch? Call me at 695-0213 so I can include your news in our branch reports. Your branch officers wish all of you and your families a Happy St. Patrick’s Day on March 17. Branch 8164 Steubenville, OH Members of Branch 8164 recently gathered at St. Anthony Church to attend a Mass celebrated by the Rev. Msgr.
