Nearly half of those attending the celebration are members of the William Penn Association. Branch 14 Cleveland, OH By Dawn D. Ward Branch 14 Corresponding Secretary The summer months are passing so quickly, but there are still a few activities for Branch 14 mem­bers to enjoy. Many Branch 14 members enjoyed the annual golf tournament July 25 and the out­ing at Sea World June 28. Branch 14 will next sponsor an outing at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo on Aug. 16. Admission to the zoo will be free for all Branch 14 members (regular admission is $4). The branch will provide a tent and grill for your cookout. If you’re interested in attending the zoo outing, please call Dawn Ward at 838-1200. Congratulations to Branch 14 member Michelle Day who just graduated from Dyke Business College with a Bachelor of Sci­ence degree in accounting. Mi­chelle is planning to attend gradu­ate school in 1993. It is always rewarding to see our scholarship recipients complete their college educations. Branch meetings will resume Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at 4119 Rockside Road, Independence. Please plan to attend. Branch 27 Toledo, OH By Mary Ivancso Branch 27 Coordinator The bowling tournament is over. We received a nice letter from Barnie Kender complimenting us on a fine tournament and how quickly he received his prize money. Thanks, Barnie! St. Stephen’s 14th Annual Bir­mingham Ethnic Festival will be held on Aug. 16. A family-style chicken paprikas dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Martin Hernady extends an invi­tation to everyone to attend. Our get well wishes go to Hazel Kinsey, Donna Nagy and Elmer Toth. Our deepest sympathies to the families of Barbara Farkas, Paul Lajti and Elizabeth Rasi. Elizabeth was the widow of former Branch 27 Vice President Andrew Rasi. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Kathy Novak Branch 28 Reporter We hope everyone has been en­joying the summer festivities thus far. A great big welcome back to the Youngstown area goes out to John, Mamie, Johnny and Nicole Tollas who have been residing in Florida while John was serving in the Air Force. So nice to have them home again. Congratulations to Irene Nem­eth and Margaret Maty who did Branch 28 proud once again by placing well at the national bowl­ing tournament. We hope some of our members also did well at the golf tournament. Welcome to new arrival Justin Joseph Taylor, son of Jerry and Adelle Taylor. Justin is a fourth generation member. While we are welcoming new members, we also extend greetings to Steve Tacsik and his family who have transferred to Branch 28. So glad to be adding to our membership. Speedy recoveries to all the members who have been hospital­ized recently. Wishing for better days ahead. Vacations mean visitors from everywhere, and Youngstown is no exception. Home recently from Alaska was Ray Tomory and his wife who spent some time with Irene Tomory. Also in the area recently were some guests from Hungary. Our deepest sympathy goes to all who have lost loved ones recently. We remind you to mark your calendars for Sunday, Sept. 13. That’s when the Youngstown American Hungarian Club will hold its annual Heritage Day. This event begins around 1:00 p.m. at the Hungarian Club House, located on Donale Ave­nue. Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA Our heartiest congratulations and best wishes go to Branch 34 member Anna J. Szil vasi and her husband John who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 13. Anna and John were married June 13, 1942, in Assumption Church in Leechburg, Pa. We wish them many more happy years together. Branch 44 Akron, OH By Elizabeth K. Darago Branch 44 President The year 1992 continues to be a busy one for members of Branch 44. In May, the branch volunteer afternoon was filled with the swish of pens as members signed and addressed cards for our senior members. Almost 85 cards were signed and sent to wish a very happy and healthy summer 1992. We’ve received many phone calls thanking us for the "happy cards” which brightened many a day. Twenty-five members enjoyed the J uly picnic. Lots of wonderful dishes and fruits were brought by the members. Branch 44 pro­vided the sausage, barbecued chicken, rolls, drinks and a spe­cial Hungarian surprise, túrós tészta. Thanks to Helen Eberhardt for helping in the hot kitchen. August brings the bus tour! Hurry and get your reservations in. Come join Branch 44 on Aug. 22 for a trip into yesteryear. Start with a breakfast of rolls, muffins, juice, coffee and tea. Travel in our Royal Kent touring bus to Waterville, Ohio. Board our exclusively rented passenger coach on the Bluebird Passenger Train on the Toledo, Lake Erie and Western Railway. "Ooh-and­­aah” at the scenery and the spec­tacular view from a 900-foot­­long bridge over the Maumee River, Old Miami and Erie Canal. Pause in Grand Rapids, Ohio, for a visit to the train museum or the flea market or a stroll along the restored Victorian street. Then stop for a bite to eat. We’ll reboard our Royal Kent bus for a short journey to Ohio’s 19th century Sauder Village in Archbold. Visit the crafts and trades people, sit in the village square or take a buggy ride. As we bid good-by to Sauder Village, our bus will turn east toward Maumee, Ohio, and din­ner at Bill Knapp’s Restaurant. Then it’s back to the present and our return trip to Akron. All Branch 44 members, fami­ly, friends and other branches’ members are welcome. Cost is $40 for adults and $35 for chil­dren age 13 and under. The cost includes breakfast, bus and train fares and entry into Sauder Village. Branch 150 Masontown, PA The descendants of Susanne and John A. Jesso held their family reunion on July 11 at the Pal’s Club Social Hall in Masontown, Pa. John A. Jesso served as a branch officer in Masontown for 60 years. Of the 51 family members in attendance, nearly half are Wil­liam Penn members. After a cocktail hour, a family photo was taken. Jessica Jesso Sisler welcomed everyone and introduced each family member. The invocation before dinner was offered by Jennifer Jesso. Then all enjoyed a delicious meal pre­pared by the reunion committee. Gifts and flowers were pre­sented to Barbara Mrazek Király, Margaret Jesso Koroly, JoAnn Jesso, Dorothy Jesso, Jeannette Jesso, Stella Jesso, Mary Jesso, Cindy Jesso, Doris Jesso and Kim Jesso. Highlights also included listen­ing to a recording of John Jesso playing his fiddle. A final toast was given by Ron Jesso before an evening of dancing began. The reunion was a huge suc­cess, and the family is looking forward to next year’s reunion. The committee for next year will include Jan and Kim Jesso, Dave and Doris Jesso, Lou and Cindy Jesso, and Ron and Jessica Sisler. Branch 249 Dayton, OH By Anne Marie Schmidt Branch 249 Secretary Our members and officers are taking a break this summer after a very busy spring spent planning the national bowling tournament. We hope all who attended had a memorable time. Once again, our thanks to all the local and national officers and members who helped to make the tournament the great fraternal success that it was. Congratulations to the "Hoot and Owl” and "Five Left Overs” who placed fifth and ninth, re­spectively, in the men’s team event. Also, congratulations to the "Fun Bunch” and "Bowling Bags” who placed second and sixth, respectively, in the wo­men’s team event.
