May 1992, William Penn Life, Page 3 Bishops invited to dedication of vets* tribute PITTSBURGH — The committee organizing the tribute to United States military veterans of Hungarian descent has invited several prominent Hungarian religious leaders to participate in the dedication ceremony June 6 in New Brunswick, N.J. Those invited were the Most Rev. Attila Mikloshazy, bishop of all Hungarian Catholics outside of Hungary; Bishop Andrew Harsanyi of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America; and Bishop Zoltán D. Szucs of the Calvin Synod, United Church of Christ. The tribute is a joint effort by the William Penn Association and the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. It is intended to honor those Hungarian Americans who were always ready, willing and able to establish and protect freedom and democracy both here and abroad. The tribute will consist of two parts. One part will be a large bronze plaque recognizing all Hungarian American veterans. The second part will be a book containing the names and addresses of each such veteran. Both the book and plaque will be housed at the American Hungarian Foundation’s Hungarian Heritage Center in New Brunswick. The Center will also maintain a computer file containing as much practical information about each veteran as can be gathered. To help it in its search for information, the tribute committee is calling on everyone who knows of a qualifying veteran to submit information on that veteran for inclusion in the tribute. Anyone knowing of a Hungarian American who served in any branch of the United States military since 1776 is asked to submit that veteran’s name and address to the committee. Additional information about each veteran’s service record would also be appreciated. Such information could include whether the veteran is living or deceased, whether he or she was killed in action, which branch of the military and war(s) the veteran served in, and highest rank attained. Those wishing to submit such information may use the form found on this page. Simply answer as many of the questions as possible and send the form to "Commemorative Tribute,” William Penn Association, 709 Brighton Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15233.
